4 WELCOME Welcome to Camrose Outreach School. At Camrose Outreach we strive for academic and behavioral success. We also assist students with issues that may be impacting their learning by providing a variety of services to students, as well as pointing them in the right direction outside of the school setting. Individualized programming is set up for each student, and this involves attendance agreements as well as establishing academic goals. While we program for each student individually, we also deliver courses to large groups as well. We look forward to getting to know each and every one of you, and welcome you to Camrose Outreach School. MISSION To develop strong, healthy relationships within a flexible learning environment To assist students in planning and meeting their educational needs 4
5 SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING PROGRAM FEATURES Independent self-directed and self-paced study programs for all students Attendance or non-attendance based program allows students to choose a study environment that suits their individual learning styles Individualized approach that allows staff to provide a personal plan for each student REGISTRATION PROCEDURES Book an appointment. Complete a registration package. A copy of birth certificate, Canadian Citizenship or Student Visa is required. Meet with a member of the Administration team, or Learning Facilitator. Meet with teacher to receive course work and a personal academic schedule. Note: Students registered at a BRSD School must have a completed Referral form from the originating school in order to register at Camrose Outreach. 5
6 Adult Courses FEES $190.85/credit The Student is responsible for any lost or damaged textbooks and will be required to pay for its replacement. HOURS OF OPERATION Camrose Outreach provides extended hours to meet the needs of our students. Monday to Thursday Tuesday and Wednesday Evening School is closed on Friday 8:45 a.m. 2:55 p.m. 5:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. STAFF MEETING DATES Staff Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month except September. 8 STUDENT SERVICES Learning Facilitator Jen Lindstrand The Learning Facilitator is responsible for the coordination of specialized services including identification, assessment, programming and transition planning for students. Learning Together Program Coordinator Judith Mazankowski The Learning Together Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of specialized services for Learning Together Students. School Resource Officer Cst. Fernhout The Camrose City Police Service has partnered with Battle River School Division to provide a valuable service to city schools. The SRO is in frequent contact with the school and may be consulted if legal issues arise. Alberta Health Services (AHS) - Addictions A Representative from AHS visits the school weekly. Appointments can also be set up outside of the school and school hours. Family School Liaison Program (FSL) The Family-School Liaison Program offers support services and acts as a resource to families and individuals who may be experiencing difficulties at home or at school. The Family-School Liaison Program may be an extension of existing services, or, for those students and their families who are not currently involved with other support services. Other agencies that students can access from the Camrose Community include: The Open Door, Neighbor Aide, and TIPS. 8
9 STUDENT EXPECTATIONS Outreach is intended as a place where students can receive tutorial assistance, write an exam, access computers or course materials. It is also intended as a quiet workspace for students. Students who disrupt the work of others will be asked to leave. Students are asked to refrain from talking on their cell phone inside the school building. Students should refrain from provocative or suggestive clothing. Clothing should not express anti-social sentiments or profanity. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area. Energy drinks are not permitted. ATTENDANCE POLICY Upon registration, students must sign individual attendance agreements. All students are expected to honor their agreement. Should circumstances change and the current agreement cannot be supported, a meeting with the Principal or Vice-Principal is required. 9
10 ADMINISTRATION Breakfast & Hot Lunch Program These programs are primarily available due to the generous donations from the Community. Neighbor Aide is a major contributor, so in exchange for their generosity, students are asked to assist in unloading delivery trucks. Transportation Bus Services is provided for students who live within the boundaries of the City of Camrose. Student transportation is free of charge. The bus driver will either call or text in the morning and notify you of pick up time. It is the students responsibility to be ready at the time of pickup, as the bus will not wait. Field Trips Notification shall be provided by the school to the parent/guardian prior to each field trip. Parent/guardian consent must be given for student participation. Transportation is provided for any activities and students are expected to travel to and from the event on the transportation provided. A signed waiver must be signed by the parent/ guardian if the transportation is declined. Under no circumstances will students be allowed to provide transportation for other students while travelling to or from school events. 10
11 PROGRAM PLANNING Full time students enrolled in Grade 10 or 11 courses are expected to complete 1 core and 1 option per term. Students enrolled in a Diploma course may complete the course in a term or use the entire semester to complete it. If a student wishes to change a course, a form must be completed, in collaboration with the teacher and approved by the Principal or Vice-Principal.
