2 Dear Colleagues, President s Message As fall approaches I am happy to invite you to the Georgia Urological Association Annual Fall Meeting September 25 th 28 th at the Cloister in Sea Island, Georgia. An excellent academic and educational program has been organized amidst this beautiful ocean resort. We are pleased to announce our distinguished panel of speakers including Dr. Stephen Strup, professor and Chief of Urology University of, who will lecture on urologic oncology advances. Also invited is Dr. Stephen Savage, professor of urology and Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Savage will present research on Vitamin D and prostate cancer as well as robotic urologic oncology advances. To round out the oncology panel, Dr. Peter Rossi, assistant professor of radiation oncology Emory University/Winship Cancer Institute, an expert in the field of high dose radiation (HDR) will educate us as well. In the Men s Health arena I am pleased that Dr. Sijo Parekattil, co-director of the PUR Clinic will discuss his practice s advances for the treatment of chronic orchalgia and male infertility. Dr. Brian Hill from Urology Specialists of Atlanta will lecture on The Patient Compensation System. Additionally, from the South Eastern Section of the AUA we will also welcome the president-elect, Dr. Jon Demos. Even with a packed academic venue, there will be plenty of time to explore all the amenities a world class resort such as the Cloister at Sea Island has to offer. On a special note, we must remember that the GUA is not only an educational event but our state s governing society that reports to the SESAUA. It is important to support our Association and try and grow it. I have seen many of the same faces over the years. I urge you to talk to your partner or colleague so that they join us at Sea Island, and please bring the family. I guarantee they will be sold on the meeting and return. The board members and I will be calling around this summer trying to encourage new membership so, senior partners, please encourage your junior colleagues. Specifically, the areas of prostate cancer, renal cancer, male infertility and testicular pain include subjects with recent emerging information and strategies for managing those urologic conditions. Urologic providers need up-to-date reviews of these topics that affect the care of their patients. Educational Objectives At the conclusion of the GUA 2014 Annual Fall meeting, attendees should be able to: 1. Explain the controversies of prostate cancer screening. 2. Describe nutritional and supplemental therapies as adjuvant treatment for prostate cancer patients. 3. Review the AUA treatment guidelines for prostate cancer screening. 4. Contrast the current pros and cons of PSA screening for prostate cancer including the variability on practice guidelines from various professional societies. 5. Identify the role of surgery and radiation in prostate cancer patients. 6. Recognize the necessity for male infertility evaluation in the infertile couple. 7. Understand the advancements in male infertility. 8. Evaluate the evolution from open to laparoscopic to robotic surgery for prostate cancer. 9. Describe the role of high dose radiation brachytherapy (HDR) for prostate cancer. 10. Identify new evolving techniques for refractory testicular pain. 11. Review the differences and similarities of minimally invasive nephron sparing surgery. 12. Describe the advances in surgical indications and techniques in renal cancer. 13.
