1 International Internship in Europe -- Prague, Czech Republic June 16-July 20, Highlights A. All program activities will be conducted in English B. Earn 3 hours for BA 4500 or MANGMT 4940 C. Work in a team environment to complete a customized international research project for a Missouri company interested in evaluating market opportunities in Central Europe D. Projects will involve market identification, evaluation and entry strategy analysis using primary and secondary data E. Open to MBA students by special arrangement with the Graduate Programs Office F. Open to non-business majors G. Includes international company visits and guest lectures 2. General Requirements for Program Participation A. You must be 18 or older B. You must be in good academic standing and have no current disciplinary sanctions C. You must attend all pre-departure internship meetings D. Enroll in and complete BA 4500 or MANGMT Summer 2019 E. Summer 2019 or previous Europe Study Abroad participation is required F. Participants must agree to the terms expressed in the MU student conduct manual and the MU Conditions of Participation and Program Acceptance form G. A passport that is valid for at least six months after your scheduled return date H. You will be asked to sign a liability release form, a medical release form (included in the International Center s orientation materials), and a publications release form I. You must meet minimum health insurance requirements set by the University 3. Program Details A. Program beginning and end The program begins on Sunday, June 16, All interns must be present for the program orientation session at 3:00 p.m. on June 16. The program ends when you check out of the dormitory on or before 9:00am, Saturday, July 20, The last internship work session will end at noon on Friday, July 19, Departure on July 19 requires prior approval of the program leader. B. Lodging and meals Students will stay in the university dormitory at CULS and will share a room with one other MU student for the entire five-week stay in Prague. The university is located minutes away from the city center. Public transportation allows for easy and flexible access from campus to downtown Prague. The local food in Prague is similar to German food in that it consists of a lot of meat (beef, pork, and chicken), potatoes, salads, and various vegetables. Meals are relatively inexpensive with an average lunch on campus costing under USD 5 and dinner in town or at a local café for under USD 10. The program schedule will outline what meals are included in the program fee. 4. Course Credit and Prerequisites All students, including non-business majors, should check with their academic advisor on how course credit (BA 4500 or MANGMT 4940) applies to their graduation requirements. 1
2 Pre-departure meeting expectations Interns will be required to attend five pre-departure sessions that will be conducted during the Spring 2019 semester. Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the following dates April 10, 17, 24, May 1 and May 8, All pre-departure sessions will take place in Cornell Hall; classroom location TBD. Additionally, students will be required to complete a site visit to the company they will be completing the global market research project for. These visits will be schedule to take place on either Friday, April 19, 26, or May 3, Company visits provide student interns with an opportunity to tour company facilities, meet company executives, and review the project scope of work with the company. 5. Program Schedule Work day schedule (Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with a one-hour break for lunch; Friday 9:00 a.m.-noon): We will start each work week and work day with a review of the key project tasks/research items to complete that week/day. Note will be made of the off-site organization/company visits to be made that week. Training/review of the databases and websites used to support each project team s research is part of the worksession during Week 1 of the internship. Thursdays (Weeks 2-4) - Teams will have the opportunity to coordinate primary research visits to support their project work Fridays Teams will work together to review and summarize the research completed that week, and add content to their project final report sections to be assigned weekly. Weekend Travel Individual travel on weekends is permissible during this internship subject to the following guidelines: Travel must take place outside of posted work session hours Interns are required to share their travel itinerary with the student manager on duty prior to departure Travel plans that encroach upon posted work session hours may be considered, but require prior approval from the Program Leader. Request for approval is due prior to three days of the planned departure date and requires completion of a Travel Request Permission Form. Program Leader approval is required before any travel bookings are made. 7. Estimated Budget The following budget is for planning purposes. Program Fee paid to MU Tuition & Fees Paid to MU Airfare to program site Student Planning Budget Total Estimated airfare from Bergamo Study Aboard program to Prague (if applicable) $250 $250 MU Tuition and fees(estimated for 3 credit hours) $846 $846 Trulaske Professional Fee $278 $278 MU Technology Fee $40 $40 MU International Center Fee emergency services $125 $125 Program fee (see cost section for inclusions) $2,217 $2,217 Estimated Student Cost $2,217 $1,289 $250 $3,756 Note: Tuition is estimated as UGR Resident fees and is approximate until the Board of Curators of the University of Missouri sets the new fees in April during the spring semester prior to departure. Non-resident students pay their usual additional non-resident fees. Cost The program fee quoted above (billed to your student account in May) includes the following: A. Transportation for program visits B. Lodging for the program term C. Cost of conducting company/organization visits, including admission fees D. Two program dinners during the five-week program E. Required University of Missouri GeoBlue insurance coverage for the duration of the program (Note: In some cases, you may be required to pay out of pocket to receive services. This coverage allows you to submit claims for reimbursement by GeoBlue for any medical expenses incurred out of the US while on the program.) Expenses NOT included in the program fee are: A. Air transportation to Prague and ground transportation to CULS B. Ground transportation to the airport from CULS and air transportation from Prague C. Personal expenses not associated with program activities, such as snacks, souvenirs, clothes, etc. D. Breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, except for program sponsored events 4
5 E. Tuition for the BA4500 or MANGMT 4940 (3 hours) billed to your student account. Resident students pay usual resident fees. Non-resident students pay the usual non-resident fees. F. Trulaske Professional Fee G. MU Technology Fee H. MU International Center study abroad administrative fee. This fee covers MU support services for student emergencies during the program period. 8. Schedule of Payments All billed to your student account Description Date Amount Billed Program fee Approx. May 15 $2,217 Educational fees 3 hours tuition for MU summer courses (estimated), Approx. May 15 $1,164 Trulaske professional fee, MU technology fee International Center fee Approx. May 15 $ Withdrawal from Program - Student must contact the International Relations Student Services Coordinator directly by TCoBStudyAbroad@missouri.edu documenting any withdrawals from the intended international internship program. Withdrawal date will be determined to be the date shown on the that you send to the Student Services Coordinator in 213 Cornell Hall stating that you are withdrawing from the program. Amount Date of Withdrawal $100 will be billed After date of application no exceptions $600 will be billed March 1 $1,800 will be billed April 1 Total program fee billed May 1 ***Depending on the date that you withdraw from the program, the study abroad department may or may not be able to get a refund from the vendor. Your refund will be relative to the costs that can be recovered. If you have not been billed the program fee at the time of your withdrawal you will be billed for any cancellations fees charged to the program. 10. Visas and Travel Documents All students must meet Study Abroad visa and travel document requirements. 11. Application Schedule and Deadline: This program will use a competitive selection process and is limited to 16 students. Students may be placed on a waiting list and accepted as space permits. There will be an early application period available for those wishing to apply early. Early applications will receive selection preference. Early applications due: February 1, 2019 Early interviews scheduled: February 11-15, 2019 Application due: April 2, 2019 Interviews scheduled: April 1-5, 2019 Pre-departure begins: April 10, 2019 **Application process and procedures: Complete the Summer ITC Application form located at your completed application AND resume to ITC@missouri.edu Once application materials have been reviewed, a representative from the MU International Trade Center will follow-up with you to schedule an interview. 5
6 Candidates will be notified of their internship status post-interview. Scholarships and Financial Aid The MU International Center website, has a list of available scholarships and financial aid for studying abroad. Disclaimer: The costs and schedules presented in this document are best estimates performed in good faith and do not represent any kind of fixed contract. The nature of dealing with foreign partners makes it difficult to plan exactly how this international internship program will be finalized. 13. Program Cancellation Policy for Student Financial Liability I understand that in some circumstances I may not receive full academic credit for the study abroad program for which I have applied. These circumstances include, but are not limited to: Cancellation of the program due to circumstances beyond the control of the University of Missouri; A decision by the University, in its sole discretion, that cancellation of the program is appropriate based on enrollment, health, safety, or similar considerations; My inability to participate in or complete the program due to circumstances beyond the control of the University of Missouri My dismissal from the program. I understand that in any of these circumstances, I will be refunded only those costs that can be recovered by the University of Missouri or the University s partner program. If I have not been billed the program fee at the time of my withdrawal I understand that I will be billed for any cancellation fees charged to the program. 6
