2 Shopping Trips 9a.m ~ 11a.m (at the store) TRANSPORTATION SERVICES DIAL-A-RIDE PROGRAM This is pick up from your home and drop off at home only! We are a curb to curb service! All transportation programs require an advance 24 HR or more reservation. This includes one way rides also! We can not do day same day reservations! Doctor, bank and pharmacy trips must be within the City of Taylor limits. Please call for reservations. Pharmacy, Bank Trips & City Hall 1 person per day 3 on Wednesday (if possible) Monday thru Thur. pick up window between 9 a.m. 10 a.m. Trip includes pick up and drop off at home. City Hall is on Wed only! bill payment only! Doctor Trips $2.00 fee for this service payable on pick up Must have at least 24 hr or more notice! Monday through Friday 9am - 1pm Please be ready one hour prior to appt. time! Trip includes pick up and drop off at home, Please only buy what YOU can carry in one trip!! Our Drivers are not able to assist with your purchases. Mon-Meijer / Tues-Walmart / Thur-Kroger The driver is not able to drop you off at any other location other than your home for all trips for any reason! Please do not ask! Congregate Meals: Wayne County provides daily meals at our facility. Served at 11:30 AM Monday Friday except Holidays. Suggested donation is $3.00 and you must make a reservation one day in advance by 10AM at LIQUID NUTRITION PROGRAM This program is available to senior citizens age 60+, who are unable to ingest solid food. The suggested donation is $15.00 per case. For referral to the program, please call We are a pick up location for this Service on the FOURTH Friday of each month. Unless otherwise noted. (please see the calendar) Pick up time is 9a.m. to 12 p.m. on that day! Focus Hope Please note that distribution is the THIRD Wednesday of each month. If it is not picked up THAT DAY it will not be held. 3 Senior Center Membership Have you wondered how you can join the Taylor Senior Center? If you are 50 years of age or older, you are welcome to come in and join in on all the fun and activities that we offer! There is no fee to join and you do not need to be a Taylor resident. We ask that you fill out an intake form at the front desk and we can let you know all about our center and answer any questions you may have about our trips, classes, transportation services, etc. Aging Commission The Aging Commission investigates needs of senior citizens, suggest programs and services specifically to serve seniors, and provides public information regarding the center and its services. Please submit any suggestions or issues to the front desk to present to the Commission. Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 10 am (with the exception of June and July) Board Members: Shirley Doom, Bernard Jenkins, Barbara Kotarsky, Arlene Mohr & Pat Woolley Friends of the Ford Senior Center Like the Friends of the Ford Senior Center facebook page and post your pics!! Friends of the Ford Senior Center is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization dedicated to financially supporting the senior center in its efforts to serve older adults and surrounding communities. 6 STRENGTH AND CORE TRAINING WITH JOE You may know that walking and stretching leads to a better quality of life as you age! Lifting and weights and performing other core strength training exercises can lead to benefits that add yet another layer of well being to your life. Working out with resistance of any kind will lead to stronger bones, better flexibility, and increased strength! When? Tuesdays and Thursdays 12-1 p.m. Cost? $40 per month (new classes starting each month) $6 drop in Session. Sign up with Joe or ask at front counter. GOOD HEALTH AND EXERCISE WITH JOSIE I m a certified fitness instructor with many years of teaching. My class is a wellness and exercise class at the Senior Center. In my classes we are not training for the Olympics, but we are training for life, longevity, and to be able to enjoy what we like to do for many years to come. My exercises are exclusively designed by me to fit the needs and challenges of the aging body. I have a medical background which enables me to explain why individual exercise are so good for us. I teach balance, osteoporosis, arthritis,bone density, knee, post breast cancer, lymph node removal, weight bearing, and dynaband exercises just to name a few. So shut your TV off, get off your chair, and see the positive results that can happen! Ball Room Dance Tai Chi class ~Wednesdays ~ Winter session starts week of Jan. 14th Beginning class 9:30-10:30 Intermediate class starts at 10:40a.m.-11:40a.m. Instructor: Robert Correll Tai Chi is a moderate intensity cardiovascular and weight bearing exercise. It is practiced in a slow, gentle and gracefully flowing manner and is easy on your joints. It can be practiced by almost anyone regardless of the level of fitness. The approach is self-paced and noncompetitive. No pain is the watchword. Tai Chi can improve balance, flexibility, strength and endurance. Look for Winter classes to start up the week of January 14, Please fill out registration forms in advance. Forms will be available after the New Year! Line Dancing: Every Friday! 11 Do you know how our trips work? Taylor residents only first week of sales! Non Residents one week later. Sales start the first business day of the month! A wait list will be started if the trip sells out. If you see it on the Day Trip page, it is on sale or has been on sale already because it was on the page the month before!! Even if the trip is 2 mths from now, if it s on Day Trip page those tickets are for sale NOW! If the trip sells out before the next newsletter; we try to remove it from the page, however, we may print the newsletter before that happens. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask. You will be contacted if seats become available. Sorry, No saving/putting names on trips (and paying at a later time). Tickets are limited to yourself and One other Taylor Resident. ID required! Boarding the bus: You must check in with the coordinator prior to boarding the bus. Seats are first come, first serve. If you are in need of priority seating due to medical reasons please advise the coordinator. Also the depart time, is the time that the bus will be leaving the center and not the boarding time. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the departure time. We WILL NOT CALL you to see where you are. If you are late boarding the bus for returning to the center you WILL BE left behind and will be responsible for your own transportation. REFUND POLICY - Please note, refunds will not be given day of trip for any trips involving prepaid tickets, the Ticket must be sold before refund is given for any prepaid ticketed trip!( theatre etc.) Dance Tickets : Will not be refunded after count has been given to caterer unless it is sold!!! ELECTRONICS: Please note that Electronics of any kind MUST be used with headphones (or ear buds) while on the bus. Being kind and considerate to others is always important. Smart Rules for Riding : Don t be so loud that you disturb others. Excessive noise is not allowed on SMART. This includes loud conversations, obscene language and loud phone conversations. Please do not block aisle or doorway. Only bring items that you can carry on your lap or under the seat. Traveler Safety: Each traveler must decide if a trip is appropriate and to be prepared to travel safely. If you are not sure about the terrain or amount of walking, stairs involved etc.. Please ask at the front desk or ask your coordinator for further information. Please remember to take all your belongings with you everyday when you leave!
