Principal Principal s Comments March was a busy month with winter sports and activities completing concerts, performances, and participating in post-season competition. On April 19th, juniors will be ACT testing while freshmen and sophomores will participate in a college visit day. The Big Event will be held on April 26th allowing all MHS students to participate in a day of community service. The MHS Student Council s Class of the Year project continues to increase student participation in and attendance at extracurricular events. The goal of the contest is to increase school spirit while providing increased support for students in athletic events and activities. Points will be awarded to classes based on participation in extracurricular activities, attendance at extracurricular events, school attendance rates, discipline referral rates, parent/teacher conference attendance, and participation in spirit weeks. The winning class will earn a full day off of school at the end of the year. The goal of McPherson High School will continue to focus on preparing each student to be citizenship, college, and career ready when they graduate in the Roundhouse in May.

ATTN: Senior Parents Information regarding graduation and tickets has been mailed out to the residence where the student resides. Ticket requests will need to be returned to the main office by 4:00 pm Monday April 10th. If it is not returned the student will receive 8 tickets. Tickets will be distributed to the students on Wednesday, April 19th. Please put the tickets in a safe place, lost tickets will not be replaced. Senior Parents All fees need to be paid by May 5th for the student to be able to participate in graduation. National Honor Society Induction Ceremony The annual MHS National Honor Society Induction ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 26th at 5:30 pm in the threatre. I invite all members, past and present, to attend this important event. A reception will follow directly after the ceremony to offer congratulations to our new members. Seniors Honors Night Academic Honors and Scholarship Night is Tuesday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Students we want to recognize you on your accomplishments, please stop by the Guidance Office by Monday, April 24th to inform us of your scholarship information. Parents and friends of those seniors receiving scholarships and awards are invited to attend. Freshman, Sophomores & Juniors School Fees/Library Fines All MHS students must have all fees and library fines paid by Thursday, May 11th. If you have questions, please call and contact Tracey Wedel in the bookkeeping office, or Caley Cole- Robinson for Library fees. Please send your check today clearing your student s account.

3 Student Sightings Our students continue to excel! CONGRATULATIONS to the following MHS clubs, teams and individuals! Congratulations to the Boys & Girls Basketball Team on their 2nd place finish at the State Basketball Tournament. Congratulations to Taylor Robertson for being named Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year. The following basketball players received AVCTL honors: 1st Team: Ben Pyle, Mason Alexander, Mandi Cooks and Taylor Robertson. 2nd Team: Jake Alexander and Emma Yowell. Honorable Mention: Drew Labertew, Thomas Diggs, Riley Hett and Jordan Bruner. AVCTL Division III MVP is Ben Pyle and Taylor Robertston. Kurt Kinnamon and Chris Strathman were named AVCTL Coaches of the Year. Congratulations! The following Wrestlers received AVCTL honors: 1st Team: Austin Eldredge and Rhett Edmonson. 2nd Team: EJ Kretzer, Scott Radke and Bailey Yarborough. Honorable Mention: Landon Crews, Brynton Crews, Ben Hopkins, Luke Thompson, Kourtney Craig and Alex Grennan. Congratulations! Congratulations to the following MHS Journalism students for placing in the 3A/4A contest in February: Sydney Mossman - 1st place in Yearbook Sports Writing; Julia Eilert - Honorable Mention in Copy Editing and News Writing; Abbey Yianakopulos - 3rd place for Editorial Cartoon; Anna Southward - Honorable Mention for Editorial Cartoon; Kelsey Wilson - 3rd place in Student Life Photography. Congratulations to Jeff Reed for placing 25th at State Bowling and Alexis Kieffer for placing 61st. Men s Choir, Women s Choir & the Select Women s Choir all received a 1 / Gold / Superior Rating at the Worldstrides Choir Competition! The Select Women s Choir averaged score of 95 or higher out of 100 from every judge. The Women s & Select Women s Choirs scored high enough to be invited to Carnegie Hall in 2018! The Select Women s Choir received the award for the best overall choir in the entire festival...woohoo!!! The entire group received the award for showing the best school spirit, character (manners/integrity), etc. LAST CHANCE...YEARBOOK! The Bullpup yearbook is on sale for $65 until Thursday, May 11th. Senior Tributes The deadline for submitting the pictures for the senior tributes are Monday, April 3rd. Parents/Guardians of a MHS senior student: There are still spaces available for Senior Tribute s for the yearbook. Forms can be found outside Room 80. What are Troopons? One of Mrs. Diepenbrock's classes, Community Connections, will soon be doing a service project to send coupons to military troops. Troopons are what you can do with coupons you don't use! Send them to the troops overseas! It's an easy way to make a big difference in their lives. S0... if you receive a Sunday newspaper, we would love to have the pages of manufacturers' coupons you don't use. We will cut them out, label them and send them to troops. They can be dropped off at Room 64 at McPherson High School.

4 Mark Your Calendar For Band Camp! The MHS Marching Band will hold its 2017 Marching Band Camp August 7-11 at McPherson College. Band Camp will be held from 9am-4pm daily in the AIR CON- DITIONING at McPherson College with a lunch break and games! Marching camp is required for all members on the MHS Marching Band. There will be a freshman day on Friday, August 4th from 9am-noon. Camp gives us a great jumpstart on preparing for the new season, but more importantly, it begins to build the teamwork and unity necessary for a successful season and band year. Camp also gives freshman and new members a great opportunity to meet and make friends before school begins. Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming Summer Band Newsletter. Kyle Unruh - Director of Bands Cheer Tryouts April 22nd THE BIG EVENT The Big Event is taking place on April 26th this year. This is our opportunity, staff and students, to give back to our community who works so hard to support us throughout the year. Please show your support for this type of service by making sure your child is in school that day. If you have questions Coach Southern at raeann.southern@mcpherson.com The Annual McPherson County Art Exhibit will be held at Park School Gym April 20th-23rd. All art students are eligible to participate. The students need to talk with their art teacher for details. Senior Art Students that are interested in pursuing an art career may participate in the Scholarship Competition. There is a form to fill out and mail in before April 11th, so those students need to talk to their teacher for information ASAP. 5 Prom Schedule Saturday, April 8th 2017 Gatsby Gala The Banquet Center at Perkins Public viewing of decorations: 5:00-6:30 pm. Spectators, enter through the east doors. Please do not park in the parking lot directly east and north of the Banquet Center. After Prom: 12:00 am to 3:00 am - Head to the Aux Gym at MHS for games, inflatables, snacks, and prizes. Please mark you calendars for April 8th, right after Prom (11:45 pm) and for Sunday afternoon, April 9th. We will get started at 1:00 pm.
