1 SPRING/SUMMER 2018
2 WELCOME TO THE INAUGURAL ISSUE OF NMSU AUXILIARY... HOUSING NEW HOUSING DIRECTOR ANNOUNCED. MANY CHANGES are happening in and around our university, and much of these changes affect our faculty and staff in one way or another. In a setting of more than 15,000 students, New Mexico State University continues to be on the forefront of providing quality education and preparing students for their future. We want to keep you informed of WHAT WE KNOW and WHAT WE ARE PLANNING for the NMSU Auxiliary Services department. We look forward to bringing the RIGHT AMOUNT OF CHANGE so students, faculty and staff can continue to be proud of this great university. #AGGIEUP UPCOMING DATES MAY EXAMS 11 LAST DAY OF CLASSES 12 CAMPUS HOUSING CLOSES 12P NOON We d like to welcome Scott Hendershot, the new Executive Director of Housing & Residential Life for New Mexico State University. Scott comes to us after more than a decade of experience in Housing and Residential Life. With that experience comes a level of customer service that goes unmatched in the industry. Students should expect that they will have an expanded level of customer service, more direct interactions with Faculty and Staff in the residence halls, and a renewed sense of personal discovery while living on campus, notes Hendershot. I think we will see students have a greater interest in their experience and hold us, NMSU, accountable for providing them a great experience. As we can see a national movement of young people really speaking up for their wants, needs, and rights, we should be ready to listen and respond to students. I believe this will help set us apart as an institution ready to make the necessary changes to meet our students where they are. I INVITE STUDENTS TO STOP BY AND CHAT WITH ME ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE, I HAVE AN OPEN DOOR AND WELCOME CONVERSATIONS. 3 NEW NMSU RESIDENCE HALL CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOON. HOUSING The empty lot where Monagle Hall once stood, (the open grass space between Corbett Center Student Union and Rhodes-Garrett-Hamiel) will start seeing construction in the near future. Monagle Hall was demolished in the fall of 2016 and the lot has been vacant as the process of the new residence hall is being finalized. Glen Haubold the Associate Vice President for Facilities and Heather Watenpaugh the university Architect and Campus Planning Officer at New Mexico State University sat down with The Round Up to discuss the logistics of the new building. It s a much longer process than what it looks like, Haubold said. The new building will house approximately 300 students and be designed in a Spanish Renaissance style with two classrooms inside for instruction. The classes to be taught are said to be from the 100 and 200 level courses designed for first year students. The new hall will be similar to Piñon where it will be suite based, Watenpaugh explained. Two students will share the bedroom as well as the bathroom with their two neighbors. NMSU Facilities has selected HB Construction Inc. out of Albuquerque to build the project. 4 DINING WHAT NEW THINGS CAN STUDENTS EXPECT NEXT YEAR? Next year, as we continue the journey of providing students a unified experience across campus, a number of services will be expanding here at NMSU. These exciting new services have been designed to connect students to campus and community resources no matter what stage of their student journey. From first-year to graduate student, everyone will now have access to Crimson Concierge, a campus concierge service that can assist with everything from making appointments to helping students conquer their to-do lists. Another new convenience for students is the 24-hour Aggie Assist call center. NMSU offers extensive academic and engagement resources, and Aggie Assist will provide a centralized resource to facilitate student connections to these resources. options. We understand that the student experience is different for all NMSU students, so these new services are really going to help us transform that experience into something unique to each student s needs. ARE THERE ANY DEADLINES APPROACHING THAT STUDENTS SHOULD BE MINDFUL OF? With all of the exceptional campus resources, students are spending an increasing number of hours oncampus. Why not save valuable money and time by signing up for a meal plan? Students can ease the transition to the upcoming academic year by purchasing a meal plan for the fall semester online at nmsu.edu or in the ID Card Services office (Corbett Center, Room 137). We are also excited to grow the programming that Auxiliary Services will offer as part of our student living experience for on-campus students. We will expand our capabilities to engage students on campus by featuring cooking demos, intimate concerts and other live events. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU FINDING THAT MIGHT INTEREST STUDENTS - AT NMSU AND NATIONALLY? In today's digital world, students expect a high degree of convenience. Auxiliary Services is proud to keep up with this student demand through the expanded quality of life resources. Whether a student is trying to connect with a vital campus department, looking to expand cooking skills or seeking assistance with laundry and other chores, NMSU is providing easy-to-use service And, while it s not a deadline, our Crimson Concierge Service Desk is up and running with people to assist you from 9 am to 5 pm every day. Stop by Corbett Center, Room 230 and introduce yourself. We are excited to get to know you and find out ways we can help enhance your quality of life here at NMSU. Article by John Rivers - Marketing Coordinator for Sodexo Dining at New Mexico State University. 3
