Room) DEPARTMENT NEWS Parks & Recreation Parks Refurbishing and repair of seasonal equipment continues. On site clean-up will be done from the winter storm. Recreation Snow Sculpture Contest The 2015 snow sculpture contest celebrates the spirit of winter and creative outdoor activities. So bundle up and create an entry for the snow sculpture contest this winter. Use your imagination and create a unique snow sculpture (for example: snow castles or snowmen). The contest will be ongoing from the first snow after January 1 st through March 3 rd, Top winner from each category will receive a certificate toward a Parks and Recreation Program. How to Enter: Send or bring a picture of your snow sculpture to the Hebron Parks and Recreation Department by March 8 th. Pictures will not be returned. Include your name, address and a brief description of your snow sculpture and indicate the age group of the sculpture s designer. Age Groups: 1.Child K-3 rd Grades 2. Child 4-8 Grades 3. Family Sculpture 4. Adult Only 5. Business

2 Page 2 Weekly Management Report January 30, 2015 Hotshot Contest Youth Basketball fans get ready for a little competition and fun. This contest challenges the speed, shooting and rebounding of boys and girls ages 9 to 14. Each player will have three oneminute rounds to shoot from hotspots. Top scorers will move onto the next level of the contest. Call the Parks and Recreation Office to be added to the contact list. Date: Wednesday February 18 th, 2014 Location: HES Gym Times: 5:00pm-7:00pm Fee: Free Hebron s Got Talent Dancers, Musicians, vocalists, comedians, performers of all kinds! All proceeds to benefit the Children s Scholarship programs of AHM Youth and Family Services and Hebron Parks and Recreation. For more information please contact Gilead Congregational Church at Date: Friday, February 6, 2015 (snow dates 2/9 or 2/13) Location: RHAM High School Auditorium Time: 7:00 pm until all contestants are finished Fee: Free to all (donations accepted) Tax/Revenue Department It has been a hectic collection cycle. I anticipate Friday, January 30 th to be one of our busiest days of the year, ahead of any potential weather. Final day to pay is Monday, February 2, We will be sending out delinquent bills the middle of February and issuing warrants in March. Tammy has been a wonderful addition to the Town of Hebron staff, she brings superb customer service skills to our office and is well received by the residents. DOUGLAS LIBRARY OF HEBRON Please join us for our following programs coming up at the Library. We are halfway through our Friday Foreign Films. On January 30th at 1pm we will be showing, 'Lemon Tree'. 3 Page 3 Weekly Management Report January 30, 2015 Public Works This week the Public Works Department started it s week by responding to a 22 snow storm on Monday and Tuesday. Another inch of snow fell late Tuesday into Wednesday which called out the crew early. Pushing back snow banks and opening sight lines at intersections became a priority for public safety. Snow was again falling on Friday as winter continues and the crew was called at 1:30AM. Truck maintenance in the upcoming week will need to be a focus of the department. BUILDING DEPARTMENT The Fire Marshal and myself had another meeting with the owners and contractors for Camp Hemlocks. We anticipate permit applications within a week and construction to start immediately. They have a very aggressive schedule which will require either Randy or myself to be onsite each day when construction starts. The immediate items that will be done before opening on June 1 are; fire suppression system throughout the building, remodeling the kitchen, repairs to the mechanical and plumbing systems for the pool areas. Then they will start concentrating on mechanical system upgrades around the facility and window replacements. Juliano s Pools on Church St. is still under construction with the installation of the display pool, new roof and new windows. The permit activity for the past month has remained steady compared to the previous three years. During the month of January the department issued two permits for the construction of new homes. This brings a total of six new home permits for this fiscal year, which equals the total number of new home permits issued last year.

4 Page 4 Weekly Management Report January 30, 2015 Winter Safety Tips and Snow Removal From the Fire Marshal In the instance of a fire, firefighters need to be able to quickly locate the fire hydrant, or lives and property could be lost. Fire Marshal s Office urges all residents to do the following to help keep their neighbors safe during inclement weather: 1) Make sure the hydrant/dry hydrant in your neighborhood is visible. Adopt your fire hydrant. It Needs to be uncovered from snow and there needs to be a clear path for access 2) Should extreme weather prevail resulting in snow-covered fire hydrants: Attempt to remove the snow from around the hydrant or dry hydrant. 3) Make sure your address is visible. Fire and Rescue responders may be delayed, if their unable to see house numbers to ensure they are at the correct location. 4) Make sure you have at least two clear exits out of your home. Keep an eye on snow build up. When the snow melts and refreezes, it could prevent you from being able to open the door and exit from your home. Watch for ice build-up on the steps, sand or kitty litter can help prevent slipping on the ice. Clean around all outside furnace power vents. Businesses The need to clear snow from main entrances so occupants can access buildings has caused secondary and other emergency exits to be forgotten. Additionally, the large or small snowfalls may block exit doors from opening. This snow and ice may overwhelmed normally open space creating the added burden of where to put snow so it will not be in the way. CLEAN ALL EXITS Exits should be cleared at least the width of each exit door and the exit path should lead to the nearest public way. Anyone finding blocked exits should notify building management or person responsible to remove the snow and/or ice immediately.

January 2015 Upcoming Hebron Business Networking Breakfast - Feb. 18 The next Business Networking Breakfast will be on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 8:00-9;30 a.m., hosted by Dr. David Steinberg at Hebron Family Chiropractic (23-B Liberty Drive). Dr. Steinberg will discuss his services, and representatives from WILI Radio will also do a short presentation on the ins and outs of radio advertising. Hebron Economic Development Commission's Link to Hebron Businesses The breakfast starts at 8:00, and will end no later than 9:30. This is a great networking event for Hebron and area businesses, so please bring your business cards or pamphlets that describe what your business offers that other folks might like to know. Hebron EDC Targets New Health Care Businesses The Hebron Maple Fest, one of the signature community celebrations in Town, is coming back for its 25th Anniversary, March 14-15, 2015 The Festival will be from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. both days, Events will include pancake breakfasts both days, tours of sugar houses, bake sales, silent auctions, ice cream eating contests, scavenger hunts and more! More information can be found at: hebronmaplefest.com The Hebron Economic Development Commission, seeking to implement the recommendations of its 2013 Market Study, has been focusing on growing several key business clusters in Hebron. Targeted marketing efforts, including sector-specific flyers have been developed. The first of these is the Health Care and Wellness sector. In early December, EDC sent the above flyer to over 700 health care practices and medical providers in Greater Hartford, promoting Hebron's excellent demographics and business-friendly environment.
