1 SJS Saints News March 9, 2018 St. Joe's Custom Office Update Our Lenten Journey continues! We are now up to 60% school wide participation. That is up 5% from last week! Lets go St. Joe s! If we get to 90% family participation we will have an all school Our mission is to inspire and empower all learners to become the person God intends by integrating Catholic Virtue, Prayer and Service with 21st Century Learning. 1

3 SJS Saints News JPII AWARD Students: Venice Lonnes Grade: 3 Virtues: Diligence Nominated by: Mrs. Metling Story: Venice Lonnes is a very diligent worker. She works hard on her school work and asks questions if she needs something clarified. She always strives to do her best. Venice is also one who will file papers into the students mailboxes. She loves organization and works to achieve it. I nominate Venice Lonnes for the virtue of Diligence. Thank you Venice for showing the Virtue of Diligence. Students: Michael Garlets Grade: 7 Virtues: Charity Nominated by: Ms. Fadness Story: Michael always seems to find time to help other students in the classroom. I have witnessed him helping students with many technology issues in the classroom and even some teachers (including myself). Michael is always willing to help anyone who needs it. 4 STUDENT PHOTOS OF THE WEEK PRE-ALGEBRA WITH MRS. GALLUS Gr. 7 students are exploring with volume of prisms & cylinders compared to pyramids & cones. EXPLORING PROBABILITY WITH MRS. KLAWITTER Gr. 6/7 students have been exploring the concept of probability in Mrs. Klawiter's classroom. Completing activities using spinners, dice, coins, and chips, students are learning how educated predictions are made and how to compare what does happen in an experiment and what should happen based upon theory. 4

6 ANNOUNCEMENTS EASTER BASKET PROJECT EASTER BASKETS FOR THE WACONIA UNITED FOOD SHELF: We have partnered with the Waconia United Food Shelf to make Easter Baskets for local kids in need this Easter. You can donate bags of candy, Easter basket toys/goodies and we will make Easter Baskets for the kids. DONATE BY MARCH 18 TH to the basket outside of the school office. Last Call! Due 3/16 SOCCER REGISTRATION DUE! Join us for Soccer at St. Joe s this Spring! For Grade K-6. Practice begins in April and a schedule will be available soon. Interested in being a coach? 9 GET INVOLVED CONTAINERS for ART NEEDED! The art room is in need of paint containers. Please send in washed Yogurt, Cottage Cheese or any plastic containers (with covers!) to be used in the Art Room. Thanks! Lunch Duty Volunteers Needed Parents can sign up to help with lunch duty anytime! Lunch duty is from 11:40-12:30 each day. You are responsible for helping students clean tables and supervise. 13 ACTIVITIES PreK-8 Dinner with Dads Event To celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph Monday, March 19 Why: To celebrate the St. Joseph Feast Day and the vocation of being a father with your kids. What: A formal dinner for Dads and their kids Date: March 19th Time: 5-6 pm Location: St. Joseph School Commons Cost: $5 per person Dinner Details: Cheese Ravioli (with a plain buttered noodle option), mixed vegetables, Caesar salad and a very amazing chocolate cake. 17 Car Seat Inspection Event 3 out of 4 car seats are not used or installed correctly. Attend this FREE event to have your booster or car seat installation checked. Certified car seat technicians will teach you how to install and use your child s car seat(s) correctly. There is no charge for a car seat inspection.
