1 2018 Deuel- Garden County Summer Youth Workshops Pre-Registration is highly encouraged a Week before all workshops! If travel is an issue, please let the office know. We will try our hardest to help arrange transportation. Beyond The Needle- Sewing Join Shelly as she uses science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and your creativity to create a one of a kind garment! The sky is the limit with this one!! When: Session 1- June 26 th, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Session 2- determined by participant schedule Where: St. Mark s Lutheran Church - Oshkosh Cost: $25 Pebble Art Local artist, Myra Ring, will teach participants to create wonderful works of art using Pebble Art. Create beautiful designs with pebbles that will decorate your room for years to come. When: June 27th, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Where: Art Gallery in Lewellen corner of main and Hwy 26 Cost: $10 Clover Kids Crafts Two options will be available for Clover Kids (5-7 year olds) one in Garden and one in Deuel. You do not need to be a resident in that county to attend just pick the one that works the best for you!! Participants will make pinwheels, seed mosaics, and healthy snacks. All will incorporate science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) concepts. When: June 27 th, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Where: St. Mark s Lutheran Church Oshkosh Cost: $5 for 4-H members; $10 for non-4-h members When: June 29 th, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Where: Deuel County Fairgrounds Chappell Cost: $5 for 4-H members; $10 for non-4-h members Beginning Sewing Join Shelly as she uses science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics to learn more about textiles while developing basic sewing skills along the way! After the fair, you will have something special for your room. When: June 28 th, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Where: Oshkosh Lutheran Church Cost: $15 Advanced Baking Working with yeast can be fun but challenging! Lela DeCock will lead youth in making pretzels while using yeast. While yeast is rising, we will also work on making candy a new class in our fairbook!! When: July 6 th - 9:00a.m. -1:00 p.m. Where: St. Mark s Lutheran Church - Oshkosh Cost: $5 for 4-H youth; $10 for non-4-h members lunch will be provided Age: years old

2 2018 Deuel-Garden Summer Workshops 2 Shopping in Style Get ready to go shopping!! Join the Extension gals on a day of shopping in Scottsbluff as we search for the perfect garments for your body type and need on your budget. Come ready to shop all day and add to your wardrobe. When: July 9 th, 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Where: Leave from Garden County Courthouse Cost: Your budget and lunch/snack money Small Animal Showmanship Clinic Learn the ins and outs of poultry and rabbit showmanship. Our local youth expert will demonstrate how to prepare and show your animal for the county fair. Please do NOT bring your own animals to this event - she will bring some extras for you handle! When: July 10 th 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Where: Anja Nyugen house get directions when you register! No need to bring animals as she will have some for you to work with. Clay Sculpting Clay can be lots of fun, especially when making tiny figurines. Learn from local expert, Bonnie Willey, as she teaches youth to sculpt. You must register by July 6 th so we can get the correct amount of clay!! When: July 10, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Where: Deuel County Extension Office Beginning Baking This exciting class will allow youth to develop the skills needed for baking measuring, reading recipes, and safety. Participants will also learn about the science behind baking processes and make muffins and cookies. Advanced Photography Ready to up your game in photography? Come learn new techniques from Kinley Quinn Photography to improve your picture taking skills by working with lighting and photography details. Make sure you bring your own camera or let the office know that you need to borrow one. When: July 12 th, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Where: meet at the Garden County Courthouse and we will carpool to various sites to take pictures Cost: $5 we will help you print and mount one picture for the fair When: July 10 th - 1:00-3:00 p.m. Where: St. Elizabeth s Catholic Church - Chappell Age: 5-7 need a baking buddy; 8-10 can attend alone

3 2018 Deuel-Garden Summer Workshops 3 Livestock Showmanship Clinic Bring your animal and walk around the ring while learning some techniques from our local best! You are encouraged to bring your animals with you to work in the ring with our experts giving you direct feedback. We do ask that you not bring hogs to the fairgrounds to prevent the spread of disease. We will try to have some hogs there for youth to work with, though! You are free to come and go as needed based on the animals that you are showing. When: July 14 th 8:30 a.m. unload and pen animals as needed 9:00 a.m. hog showmanship 9:45 a.m. sheep/goat showmanship 10:30 a.m. beef showmanship 11:30 a.m. GC Record Book Q&A 12:00 a.m. lunch break on your own 1:00 p.m. horse lesson Where: Garden County Fairgrounds Cost: Free! Beginning Photography New to photography? Get started on the right foot with Britt Miller as she introduces the basic of photography including leading lines, framing, and rules of thirds. Bring your own camera or let the office know if you need to borrow one. If you want to bring your own computer, we are doing editing also!! When: July 17 th, 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. Where: Deuel County Extension office we will do lessons inside and then drive around to take pictures Cost: $10 we will walk through how to mount pictures that day. Youth will pick out which pictures they want printed after editing them. Once we have pictures printed, youth will be able to come back to get final help with mounting and preparation for fair. 4-H at CHAMPS!! Sarah, Shelly and Courtney with be continuing STEM Club at CHAMPS (Garden County Summer School) throughout the summer. Every Wednesday morning, two lessons will be presented for all age levels Growing in the Garden and STEM Club with a variety of science topics. Make sure you don t miss out on these fun activities! Quilt of Valor Keep an eye out on FaceBook for dates to create the Deuel/Garden Quilt of Valor!! Anyone is welcome to come work on a quilt that will be given to wounded soldiers over-seas. It is a great community service project and an honor to help our service men and women!
