2 Homework For this session you will have four specific assignments: 1. Read the Commitment to Learn in Public Chapter in Gracious Space (Pages 37-42). a. Write down a time you ve been afraid of failure in a professional/community setting. b. Write down an example of someone you know who has demonstrated Learning in Public. What did it look like? What did they risk? What was the outcome? 2. Read Article 7 of the Wyoming Constitution. a. What did you learn? Write down 2-3 things. b. What surprised you? Write down 1-3 things. 3. Print and read the article What About Schools? by Rivera and Cardenas. a. Highlight 3-5 sentences that standout to you as unique to Wyoming. b. Highlight 2-3 sentences that raise red flags to you in light of current economic and social factors. 4. Bring a photo of you from childhood. Please print and bring the actual photo. 6 EVANSTON SCHOOL TOUR ASSIGNMENTS Goal of Visit: To observe Wyoming education in action. You will be hosted by students, teachers, and perhaps administrators during your time at the school. We hope you will take the opportunity to observe education not as a student or parent, but as a stakeholder in Wyoming education and our future. Things to Observe: 1. What about the classroom looks the same as when you were in school? What looks different? 2. What are the biggest challenges facing today s students? 3. What are the biggest challenges facing teachers and administrators? 4. Who sets the course for the desired outcomes for this school? A few stakeholder groups to consider: teachers, administrators, parents, community, business, legislature, other? 5. Take note of efforts to support equity in education, as mandated by the Wyoming Constitution. What do these efforts look like? Are they working? 6.
