1 Manuscript Collections Home Finding Aid to the North Dakota Local History Collection North Dakota Local History, 1880s [ongoing] 3.8 linear ft. Collection number: Mss 130 History Scope and Content Box and Folder List OVERVIEW Access: The collection is open under the rules and regulations of the Institute. Provenance: Acquired from various sources and donors by the Institute staff, 1950s- [ongoing]. Property rights: The Institute for Regional Studies owns the property rights to this collection. Copyrights: Copyrights to this collection are not held by the Institute for Regional Studies. Citation: [Identification of item]. North Dakota Local History Collection, MS 130, Institute for Regional Studies, North Dakota State University, Fargo. HISTORY Most of these files were originally established as separate collections within the Small Collections of the Institute. In 1984 they were withdrawn from the Small Collections, reappraised and established as a single collection within the Institute. Additions have been made over the years and likely will continue on a limited basis in the future. SCOPE AND CONTENT The North Dakota Local History Collection is an eclectic assortment of documents that have been organized around the appropriate North Dakota community or county. Not all communities or counties
2 Mss 130 North Dakota Local History Collection Page 2 of 7 are represented in the collection. The collection has been organized alphabetically by the name of the town or county. The files contain a wide variety of historically related material that are not substantial enough to warrant a separate collection. Materials include pamphlets, local programs, short histories, school material, term papers and newspaper clippings. No item-level listing is maintained. The materials could be considered ephemeral in nature, yet of potential value in the research of a particular community or county. The material has been collected by the archives staff, donated, or found in other collections while being processed. Substantial materials normally would not be added to this collection but would be either cataloged into the Institute publications collection or established as a separate collection.
