1 Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. Weekly News May 8, 2017 From Isaiah 43:1 School News *Respect Passage of the Week: In addition to promoting our school year theme from Isaiah 43:1 (see above), our teachers are sharing passages on the topic of respect. These passages will be part of the classroom experience and integrated when each teacher shares his/her week of devotions. This week, Mr. Tuskowski shares Proverbs 13:13 Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded. We encourage our RLHS families to continue this discussion at home as we partner to instill respect in our students. Thank you. *Congratulations to RLHS student Cameron Schroeder, who achieved the highest rank in the Boys Scouts of America, that of Eagle Scout. *Thank you to everyone who showed their support for the Sanchez-Flores family during their time of need. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers. *Racine Lutheran High School DOES NOT approve of any type of Senior Skip Day. If students have unexcused absences, they may receive a 0 for classes that they missed. If you are an athlete, this is a reminder that in order to participate in athletic practices and games, a student must be in school ALL DAY. Exceptions can be granted at the discretion of the athletic director. If you, as parents, know a student is going to be absent from school ahead of time and would like to request an exception to this rule, please communicate this to the coach and athletic director prior to the day of absence. Any doctor/dentist/orthodontist appointments that occur between now and the end of the school year will need a note from that medical office in order to have an exception considered. Thank you for your cooperation as we ensure that student-athletes are students first. *IF YOU ARE GOING TO MISS A FINAL EXAM...you MUST complete a pre-planned absence form by Wednesday, May 10. This form can ONLY be picked up from Mr. Bickel. See the schedule below. *Honors Convocation is Wednesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. Please plan to attend.
2 *The RLHS Fine Arts Festival Concert is Friday, May 12, at 7 p.m. We will celebrate multiple facets of the school s thriving fine arts program. Unique art projects and Industrial Art creations will be showcased in the school s Commons. Student musicians from the Concert Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Handbell Ensemble will perform. Admission is free, and a goodwill offering will be available at the conclusion of the concert. *RLHS is doing a service project as part of our Veterans Project Event. We are holding a VETERANS OUTREACH OF WI FOOD DRIVE for two weeks running now through Friday, May 19. VOW s food pantry is available for veterans and their families to visit weekly, and it provides healthy meal choices. The food pantry is always in need of donations, especially: mustard, ketchup, pancake mix, syrup, canned tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, tuna, canned chicken, canned fruits, jelly and toilet paper. Collection boxes will be outside of Mr. Bickel's office. Donations will be presented to VOW representatives at the Veterans Project dedication on Friday, May 19. Please be generous. *ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS: Here is your chance to own the RLHS 2017 VIP Graduation Package and have the perfect view of your child s memorable moment. On the school website, look for the spirit wear link on the top of the homepage. New apparel is available featuring Nike as well as other brands. Customization is available. *When inclement weather forces us to cancel, postpone, change venue, or change practice times, we do our best to make a decision by 1 p.m. that day. Students will be allowed to contact a parent as soon as the change has been announced. If you call the school for information before 1 p.m., it is likely that no decision will have been made. If no announcement is made, you can assume that everything is on as scheduled. Also please note that we do not follow Racine Unified when it comes to weather announcements and decisions. *All game schedules are on the online school calendar. Please click on the Calendar link on the school website. Bus departure times and Training Room hours are also listed. You may also sign up for notifications from the calendar site which will alert you to upcoming contests and schedule changes. This is particularly important to get rescheduling info during the spring season. Coaches contact information is also found on the calendar site. A user guide for the school calendar website can be found here. There is also a free mobile app to access the school calendar. The Citadel contains 160 pages of photo memories of all students, teachers, friends, teams, activities, classes, and special events -- all put together with care through hundreds of hours of work by the publications staff. Almost every student orders a yearbook, so don t be left out. We hope you will take this opportunity to get your copy of this wonderful book!
