Wilson-Foods, Debbie Nealy-Needle Crafts Summer Retreat at the Ramey House The summer retreat at Christy s house was held on June 27th and was well attended.

Marie Pitts came with a special arrangement of fresh picked flowers for the hostess.

2 Special thanks to all those who worked at the Exhibit Hall on July 17: Nell Jordan, Debbie Head, Jo Giddens, Betsy Manship, Pat Markell, Jewell Burgett, Marie Pitts and Nancy Hudson. We had almost 200 entries in the Open division and gave out over $600 in premiums. Congratulations are in order for our Homemakers who won Best of Show (purple ribbons). They were Nancy Hudson-Arts and Crafts, Nell Jordan-Clothing, Nell Jordan-Quilts, Linda Cotton-Garden Produce, Mary F. Wilson-Foods, Debbie Nealy-Needle Crafts Summer Retreat at the Ramey House The summer retreat at Christy s house was held on June 27th and was well attended. Twenty-one homemakers came to enjoy the fellowship and salads everyone brought. Marie Pitts came with a special arrangement of fresh picked flowers for the hostess. It was a productive, expanded council meeting and we all learned a little bit more about each other as we visited around the lunch tables. The weather did not allow for outdoor eating, and a few felt the splatter of raindrops as they left the house to return to Simpson County. The Wilsons experienced some unexpected flying debris as they exited the neighborhood, but thankfully, they nor their vehicle were injured or damaged. All in all it was a great day!

4 Officer Training Officer Training will take place on August 23 at the Simpson County Extension Office from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and from 1:00-4:00 p.m. We will do an evening training for anyone who cannot attend the day training. All County Chairman 9:00-10:00 a.m. Treasurer Training 10:00-11:00 a.m. Secretary Training 1:00-2:00 p.m. Vice-President Training 2:00-3:00 p.m. President Training 3:00-4:00 p.m. Anyone unable to attend at the times listed above may attend a group training 5:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided for all groups and we will review your duties as club officers and chairmen during the training. If you are a club or county officer or chair, please plan to attend one of these trainings. I look forward to working with everyone this coming year. WPBM-TV Catch Christy Ramey and the other FCS Agents in the Mammoth Cave Area on TV 31 Proclaim Broadcasting WPBM-TV. Our program is called Family Lifestyles and features family programming that covers topics important to your everyday life. From reducing clutter and financial information to canning, freezing and food prep this program is one you might want to watch. It is broadcast several times during the week. Check your local listings for viewing times. Volunteer Opportunities Back to School Bash Saturday, August 4 from 9:00-11:30 a.m.. We need about 6-8 volunteers at the Registration and the FCS Booth. They are sitting jobs. Please call the Extension Office to volunteer. This fall What s in the Doctor s Bag? will be taught at Greentree North Day Care. The first lesson is August 7th at 2:30 p.m. If anyone would be interested in helping with or learning more about this program, please contact the Extension Office for more details. People Serving People-We are opening a Food Pantry for the public at the Red Brick House on Tuesday and Friday of each week beginning in August. It will be open about 2-4 hours on each of those days and we are looking for volunteers to sit with the food and serve anyone who might be in need. No lifting is required. *Please contact the Extension Office to volunteer for any of these opportunities*

5 Senior Nutrition Classes There will be nutrition classes offered at the Senior Center this fall. The center is located at the Housing Authority office off of Hwy All programs begin at 10:00 a.m. on the following dates: Monday, July 30 Monday, August 20 Monday, September 17 Monday, October 22 Monday, November 19 Dates to Remember: July 31: Canning class at the Extension Office from 2:00-5:30 p.m. Call and reserve your spot. Space is limited. August 4: Back to School Bash at the Franklin-Simpson Middle School from 9:00-11:30 a.m. August 6: Mammoth Cave Area Homemaker meeting in Barren County at 9:30 a.m. August 9: Annual Night at the Franklin Church of Christ at 6:00 p.m. See details on the first page of this newsletter. August 9: County Cultural Arts Contest. Bring items for judging from 12:00-2:00 p.m. They will be judged and ready for viewing that evening. 6 Ingredients: 1/2 cup quick cook oats 1/2 cup honey-sweetened granola 3 tbsp. whole wheat flour 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup butter, softened 6 cups peaches, peeled and sliced 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground allspice 1/4 cup chopped pecans Peach Crisp Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Combine the oats, granola, flour and brown sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Cut small pieces of softened butter over the top. Cut butter into dry ingredients until well combines and crumbly. Lightly coat an 8-by-8 inch baking dish with cooking spray, add peaches. Sprinkle the dry ingredients and butter mixture over the peaches. Add spices and chopped nuts evenly over the top. Place on rack in the middle position in oven. Bake minutes, or until topping is golden brown.
