3 Campus Behavior Coordinator (CBC) Lupe Lujan Coordinator of Student Services
4 SB 107 Campus Behavior Coordinator The bill requires a person at each campus be designated as the Campus Behavior Coordinator. May be the principal or any other campus administrator selected by the principal. Is responsible for maintaining student discipline and addressing issues related to removing a student from class. Each principal shall designate an alternate Campus Behavior Coordinator
5 Campus Behavior Coordinator Is responsible for maintaining student discipline and addressing issues related to removing a student from class. Assistant Principal s shall continue to handle discipline as is current practice. The Campus Behavior Coordinator shall ensure the student removal process is in compliance with the Student Code of Conduct and shall sign off on all discipline referral forms involving removing a student from class. The Campus Behavior Coordinator: Shall consider whether the student acted in self-defense, the intent or lack of intent at the time the student engaged in the applicable conduct, the student s disciplinary history, and whether the student has a disability that substantially impairs the student s capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness of the student s conduct. Must ensure prompt notification is made to a student s parent/guardian if the student is placed in in-school suspension; out-of-school suspension; disciplinary alternative education program; or taken into custody by a law enforcement officer. Must ensure student s parent/guardian is notified by phone or in person and must ensure a good faith effort has been made to provide a written notice of the disciplinary action to the student on the day the action is taken. Must ensure a written notice of the action is mailed to the parent/guardian s last known address if the parent/guardian has not been reached by phone or in person by 5 pm of the first business day after the disciplinary action has been taken. The principal or designee(alternate) can provide the notice if the coordinator is unable or not available.
