Our Challenge Dear friends: The author of our passage from the Book of Wisdom this weekend is writing about the true nature of evil. It calls for vengeance upon the just almost without reason.

Paul s letter to the earliest Christian Church in Corinth, Greece, he is reminding them of their commitment to the Christian collective.

These two stories of belief and faith in the midst of adversity in this weekend s gospel passage lead into the story of Jesus rejection at Nazareth, his hometown.

2 Our Challenge Dear friends: The author of our passage from the Book of Wisdom this weekend is writing about the true nature of evil. It calls for vengeance upon the just almost without reason. In the context of the Book the wise would prevail, but only through God s help. In St. Paul s letter to the earliest Christian Church in Corinth, Greece, he is reminding them of their commitment to the Christian collective. He speaks of the Macedonian churches which have given generously. If the Macedonians, who have suffered so greatly, have given so much, then the Corinthians can surely give as generously. These two stories of belief and faith in the midst of adversity in this weekend s gospel passage lead into the story of Jesus rejection at Nazareth, his hometown. We would expect the people of Nazareth to embrace Jesus, but they will not believe, and Jesus will be amazed at their unbelief. The faith of Jarius that Jesus could heal his daughter and the faith of the woman who had been so ill for so long that Jesus could heal her.is what helped them approach Jesus and to request the miraculous. Our faith is what can push us forward as well as sustain us during times of great trial. Harry Emerson Fosdick has said, Fear imprisons, faith liberates; fear paralyzes, faith empowers; fear disheartens, faith encourages; fear sickens, faith heals; fear makes useless, faith makes serviceable. We try and maintain good health by exercise and diet and see our doctors. And, we know that this is helpful in maintaining our good health. It is through affliction that grace is brought out which cannot be seen in times of health. Affliction helps us to be dependent on God and not only the world. If we can view afflictions in this way, our faith will be strengthened. Christ is the Good Physician! Have a good week! And Happy Independence Day! BAPTISM Please contact the Pastoral Center during early months of pregnancy. Baptismal preparation is required. SPONSORS Baptism & Confirmation sponsors must be confirmed practicing Catholics in good standing in the Catholic Church, and if not St. Aloysius Parishioners, must provide a letter of good standing from the parish where they are registered. CONFIRMATION Teens confirm the fall of their junior year of high school. Preparation is required, including PSR for teens not enrolled in a Catholic school. Adult confirmation is hosted annually for anyone over 18. Please contact the parish office for more detailed information. MARRIAGE Couples are asked to contact the priest at the beginning of the period of engagement at least six months prior to the projected date of the marriage. CARE OF THE SICK Communion is brought to the sick weekly and hospital visits made weekly. Families of the sick are encouraged to notify the parish office.
