6 ALABAMA HISTORY TALK Jim Phillips: Lost Treasures of Alabama DAY Tuesday DATE January 15 4:00 p.m. Join us at the Auburn Public Library to celebrate Alabama s Bicentennial Year with an interactive presentations about the Lost Treasures of Alabama by Jim Phillips. With a focus on the early developmental days of Alabama becoming a state, Jim Phillips will share bottles and coins from early Alabama as well as a compare and contrast of early dirt farmers and wealthy plantation owners. Jim Phillips owned and operated a video production company producing videos after obtaining his education from the University of Alabama and San Diego State. He has given talks all over the South including Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee. The will be open for Pokémon, board games, and video games. Gamers are responsible for the items they bring. Games must be rated E, E10, or T, no rated M games. 8 BLACK HISTORY MONTH Harriet Tubman by Storyteller Rosalyn Thomas DAY Wednesday DATE February 20 3:30 p.m. Join us for a special Black History Month program with storyteller Rosalyn Thomas. She will tell the story of Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and then rescued around seventy enslaved people, family and friends, using a network of safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. Rosalyn Thomas is an Alabama native and veteran educator of the Alabama and Georgia school systems of forty-two years. She is a graduate of Auburn University with a master s in education. Sunday Cinema AUDIENCE Adults DAY Sunday DATE February 17 2:30 p.m. In honor of Black History Month and the Alabama Bicentennial, the Auburn Public Library will screen the movie Selma. Selma tells the story of Civil-rights activists marching from Selma, Ala., to Montgomery to secure voting rights for black Americans. February 17, 2:30 p.m. Selma 6

9 KIDS PROGRAMS World Puppet Day: Make-A-Puppet Workshop March 21st is World Puppetry Day! To celebrate, we will be hosting a make-a-puppet workshop. The library will provide the supplies and you supply the imagination! The Auburn Public Library Puppet Troupe Join the Auburn Public Library ry Puppet Troupe for shows full of laughs, wonder, and puppets sure to delight every one of all ages! Each show will feature TWO performances for your entertainment. AUDIENCE DAY DATE 3 5 years Thursdays Weekly 9:30 10:00 a.m. 10:30 11:00 a.m. 1:00 1:30 p.m. Saturday STEM Storytime Preschoolers 2nd grade children and their caregivers are invited to join us for a storytime on Saturday mornings that is all about STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This storytime will focus on these concepts in a fun, interactive, story-driven format. Please note: Some activities may involve messy fun! No Storytime on May 25. AUDIENCE DAY DATE 4 7 years Saturdays Weekly 10:00 11:00 a.m. Spring 2019 Crazy 8 s Math Club Join Bedtime Math s Crazy 8s Club, where you ll build stuff, run and jump, make music, and make a mess it s a totally new kind of math club! 12 AUTHOR TALKS Jaye Robin Brown DAY Sunday DATE April 28 3:00 p.m. Join us at the Auburn Public Library for an afternoon with Alabama author Jaye Robin Brown. Jaye Robin Brown, or JRo to her friends, has been many things in her life jeweler, mediator, high school art teacher but is now living the full-time writer life. She lives with her partner, dog, and horses in a sweet house in the NC woods where she hopes to live happily ever after. She is the author of NO PLACE TO FALL, GEORGIA PEACHES AND OTHER FORBIDDEN FRUIT, and the forthcoming THE MEANING OF BIRDS, which releases 4/16/19. 10

13 Sherri Winston DAY Wednesday DATE February 6 6:00 p.m. Sherri Winston is the author of The Sweetest Sound, President of the Whole Fifth Grade and President of the Whole Sixth Grade, as well as other books. She will talk about her writing and how she became a children s author and sign books. Books will be available for purchase at the event. This event is free and open to the public

14 AUTHOR TALKS Betty Cotton McMurtry DAY Sunday DATE March 31 3:00 p.m. The Auburn Public Library is proud to host local author Betty Cotton McMurtry. She will share her second book in the series The Cotton Chronicles: The Growing Season. 12
