Greetings from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. 1906 was something of a watershed for rice cultivation in Arkansas.

3 Greetings from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture was something of a watershed for rice cultivation in Arkansas. That was the year the first rice mill opened in Arkansas right here in Stuttgart. Although rice had been grown as early as 1819 at Arkansas Post, the rice industry in Arkansas didn t really take off until the first decade of the 20th century. Since then Arkansas rice growers have become the nation s top rice producer. The federal Bureau of Economic Analysis report that showed Arkansas leading the nation in first quarter gross domestic product growth this year also noted that growth was driven by rice. One-hundred-ten years after that first rice mill opened, the Arkansas Rice Expo continues to celebrate the crop and the community that makes it thrive. We ll show our research during field tours and address emerging issues in farming such as use of drones. In this year s keynote, we will have three industry-prominent panelists: Paul Bolin of Anheuser-Busch; Keith Glover, CEO of Producers Rice Mill and Dr. Eric Wailes, distinguished Professor- Agricultural Economics, with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture; discussing the question In 2025, where in the world will Arkansas rice be found?
