3 CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION Radford University is proud to host the 2010 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships presented by UCS and Musco Lighting in Blacksburg, Va. on October 30. Radford University extends a warm welcome to our guests from the Big South Conference. This handbook will provide you with all the necessary administrative details and tournament information. If you have any questions, do not hesistate to contact any Radford Athletics staff member. Our goal is to provide a quality championship atmosphere which is representative of the high level of competition in the Big South Conference. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Thursday, October 28 Noon Team entries are due on CFPI Timing (cfpitiming.com) Friday, October 29 3:15 p.m. Course open for inspection/packet pickup begins at Radford tent 5:30 p.m. Course close/packet pickup ends 8:00 p.m. Coaches meeting (In the Highlander Room at the Dedmon Center) Saturday, October 30 7:00 a.m. Course open 10:30 a.m. Women s 5K Championship 11:30 a.m. Men s 8K Championship 12:45 p.m. Awards Banquet 1:30 p.m. Locker room facilities open (Fieldhouse) REGISTRATION / ENTRY PROCEDURE All entries will be made on the CFPI Timing website. The entry deadline is noon on Thursday, Oct. 28. Institutions will late entries will be fined $100 and a letter will be sent to the institution s director of athletics. All coaches should bring a printout of their entries to the coaches meeting on Friday, Oct. 29. COACHES MEETING The coaches meeting will be held in the Highlander Room at the Dedmon Center on Friday, Oct. 29 at 8:00 p.m. The Highlander room is located on the facility s top floor, directly down the hallway through the double doors on the right. BANQUET INFORMATION Boxed lunches will be provided for the teams and coaches at the conclusion of the meet (men and women). 2 2

4 DIRECTIONS / HOSPITALITY DIRECTIONS TO CROSS COUNTRY COURSE From Interstate 81 North Follow I-81 South to exit 118 B toward Christiansburg/Blacksburg. Take 460 bypass to Va. Tech (not business). Travel 9.5 miles then merge onto Prices Fork Road. Exit at second Prices Fork exit. Keep straight through two lights (approximately 1 mile). School will be on the left. PARKING AT CROSS COUNTRY COURSE Teams, Officials and University Administrators Parking for team buses and vans, other team personnel, meet officials and university administrators will be directed to park towards the right side of the parking lot behind Blacksburg Middle School. Spectators All spectators will be directed to park towards to the left side of the parking lot behind Blacksburg Middle School. HOSPITALITY AREA A hospitality area for coaches, meet officials and university administrators will be available during the meet, beginning when the course opens at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning. This area, located underneath the large, rectangular tent near the finish line, will feature light breakfast foods and drinks. Hospitality will be for coaches and university officials attending the Championship. TEAM TENT AREA There will be a team tent area set up in the field to the right of the finish line. Teams are welcome to set up tents in that area, provided the area does not overlap the race course. Athletic Training will be set up in the same area, as well. The location of the team tents is posted on each course map. 3 3

5 COURSE / MEET DAY INFORMATION TICKET INFORMATION Admission to the 2010 Cross Country Championships presented by UCS and Musco Lighting will be free to all spectators. Course maps and meet programs will also be provided at no cost. RESTROOM FACILITIES A number of port-a-johns will be available near the start line of the cross country course and at the team areas for athletes and officials. Spectators and all other personnel will have restroom facilities beside the football field at the concession area. The locations of the spectator and athlete restrooms are posted on each course map. ATHLETIC TRAINING Director of Athletic Training Chad Hyatt will be available at all times during the meet. He will be set up at the large, rectangular tent near the finish line and will be traveling along the course during the meet The location of the Athletic Training tent is posted on each course map. He will provide ice and water. Each team is expected to provide its own trainer. Also please review the Emergency Action Plan (located on under the Athletic Training link) for further information. Please contact Chad Hyatt at mhyatt2@radford.edu for further questions. RESULTS A full set of meet results will be provided for each head coach after both races have been completed. A PA announcement will be made when results are available to be picked up at the large, rectangular tent near the finish line. Results will also be ed to each school s sport information contact at the conclusion of the meet. 4 4
