2 From Fr. Burns Dear Parishioners: Another era of administrators comes to an end soon as Principal John Bennett's term comes to an end. He will remain on the campus for a short time to close out the year. I am deeply grateful to all who expressed their appreciation to him in any way. The turn out for the appreciation mass and family picnic was heart warming and just as it should have been. Thanks to all who had a hand in any way in this effort to extend our deep gratitude and appreciation to a wonderful man. It has been a great privilege to work with him in two different capacities. We wish John Bennett the best and may his retirement from full time work be all that he wants it to be. How fitting that he had a hand in selecting the new principal, Erin Candilora. We are confident that the school is in capable hands and that she will assemble another great staff for the school year Congratulations are also in order for our 2015 eighth grade graduates, whose era on our campus will be completed by the time you read this. Graduation took place on Wednesday evening, May 20. At the final all school mass when they were called into the sanctuary for the traditional standing applause, there were 14 students who have been on our campus since their first year of life, having spent their early years in our Child Care Center. Ground breaking for the new Center will be held on May 31, Sunday, at 2:00 p.m.. All are invited for this historic event. This past school year has been a most difficult one for St. Aloysius Parish and School due to lingering illness and the unfortunate death of Fr. Than Vu. At times it seemed like the whole parish community was in a somewhat frozen state, waiting for what everyone hoped would not happen. I am sure Fr. Than s spirit will continue to watch over St. Aloysius, as does Fr. Dan Bencel, Fr. Hubert Brou, and Srs. Rosary, Carmen, Marina, and Josephine. St. Aloysius is so fortunate to have had such great individuals who, because of their love for God, gave St. Aloysius such tremendous service and love. June ushers in a time of quiet and recovery. Fr. Randy Cuevas arrives on the campus on July 1, but I am sure that in the week before July 1 he will busy moving in. We are still waiting word on the status of Fr. Sanjay. That decision could be coming shortly. Finally, eight staff members are finally settled in the temporary office building. (This temporary could be for three years or so.) The temporary office building is kept locked and anyone needing to see someone in that building needs to go to the receptionist s desk, Aline Landry. The following staff members are located in the temporary office building: MacDougal Womack, Connie Planche, Kathy Screen, Fr. Sanjay, Rebecca East, Tricia Greely, Claire Grandy and Cathy Dardenne. Have a great Memorial Holiday which ushers in the summer. Be safe, relax, have some fun. Happy travels. Fr. Burns PARISH STAFF Parish Office: Fr. Gerald Burns Administrator saghb@me.com Fr. 5 ST. ALOYSIUS CHILD CARE CENTER GROUND BREAKING You are invited to attend the ground breaking ceremony for The new Child Care Center on Sunday May 31, :00 p.m. Outside of the Child Care Annex Please enter through the Child Care Center gates off of the front Parking lot. SUMMER MUSIC AT ST. ALOYSIUS During the summer months there will be two music groups that will sing for Sunday liturgy: Summer Choir begins on Sunday, June 7 (the Feast of Corpus Christi) and continues each Sunday through Labor Day. Summer choir is open to all adult, youth, and children of the parish. It is an ideal way for a family to share in music ministry together. This choir is designed to allow individuals and families to try out singing in a church choir without having to commit to a mid--week rehearsal. Summer Choir is flexible. It is organized to accommodate the vacation and summer schedules of our parishioners. The choir will rehearse at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday in the Convent Choir Room. The Summer Choir will lead the music for the 11:00 a.m. mass. For more information about the Summer Choir, contact Eleanor Bach eleanorbach@gmail.com or Ken Thevenet, , ext kthevenet@staloysiusparish.com, The 5:30 Music Ministry will also continue to provide music for the Sunday evening Mass during the summer months. This group is primarily made up of High School Age Youth. High School Youth who enjoy singing are invited to join this music group. Rehearsals take place before Mass at 4:30 p.m. in the Convent Choir Room. Contact Anna Hittle hittleanna@gmail.com or Ken Thevenet, , ext 3030 for more information. The Salve Regina is a very old Marian Hymn that totally expresses the authentic teaching of the Church concerning the Blessed Virgin Mary and her key role in Salvation History. Early on, the Church incorporated the prayer into its Liturgy of the Hours. Some religious orders use it every day at Evening Prayer. The prayer is presented below in both Latin and English. O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria. Amen. HAIL holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us. And after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen. May 24, Pentecost

7 Dear Friends, The May 9 th celebration of my retirement and 30 years as Principal of SAS was a BLAST! I had so much fun and witnessed happiness everywhere! Thank you for making it a blessed day that was family and child inspired right up my alley! Among all hugs and handshakes from the adult parishioners and parents, quite a number of students approached me with kind, loving words. Here are a few: I ll miss you dressing up for us. But you and I will be fine. You re right Kylie, you and I will be just fine. Please visit us at least seven times a year. Visit I will, Kate. Maybe I ll play some music in the cafeteria when I come. With permission, of course. You must be tired after 30 years of being principal. I guess it shows a little bit, huh, Taylor? Place the cross we made for you in a special place. Already have a special place in mind, Charles, where I can always be reminded of my love for all of you. I hope you live a long time after you retire. Counting on it, Luke! This wonderful day happened because of the hard work of hundreds of volunteers. I am eternally grateful. I have not been given a list of names of those who lovingly gave their creative talents, precious time, and monetary gifts on my behalf. But you have touched me deeply and to say Thank You seems so inadequate. One of my greatest blessings is to be a part of St. Aloysius. It is a community that loves, supports and prays for one another, and I am filled with gratitude for all you have done for me and for St. Aloysius School. Regretfully, I will not be able to thank each of you personally, but I do want to mention special thanks to Fr. Burns, Tiffany Meek, Cathy Dardenne, and Ben Lemann, who spearheaded a monetary gift among the community on my behalf. But, oh, so many of you did an incredible job to make sure that all went well! God blessed us by keeping the rain away, and you blessed me by coming and making it such a success. Being a part of forming children in the Catholic tradition for a life of meaning and purpose has given me my own meaning and purpose in life. Those of us who work so closely with children know that these young ones are particularly adept at letting us know that we are not in control. They are a vivid reminder that in ministry, no matter how hard you work, ultimately it s God s work, not yours. And if you forget this, God will remind you. The Sisters, Our Daughters of Jesus, knew this, and in turn, knew we needed to lighten up and find joy and laughter in our lives and our ministries. Much laughter and great memories--- I am filled with these because of my time spent with you as principal, parishioner, and friend. I conclude with this quote from the German theologian, Karl Rahner: Laugh. For this laughter is an acknowledgement that you are a human being, and acknowledgement that is itself the beginning of an acknowledgement of God. For how else is a person to acknowledge God except through admitting in his life and by means of his life that he himself is not God but a creature that has his times a time to weep and a time to laugh, and the one is not the other. A praising of God is what laughter is, because it lets a human being be human. For those of you who stayed long enough to hear me sing with the band, I sincerely apologize. Blessings, John L. Bennett May 24, Pentecost
