Coach J.J. O Connell 5th Season J.J. O Connell was hired as the first full-time head volleyball coach at Oswego State in March of 2012.

In his first season at the helm of the Laker program in 2012, the team posted their first conference win since 2008, later collecting another league win to earn their first playoff berth since 1996.

3 Coach J.J. O Connell 5th Season J.J. O Connell was hired as the first full-time head volleyball coach at Oswego State in March of He came to Oswego State from Stevens Institute of Technology, where he served as the head coach of their women s volleyball program for ten seasons. In his first season at the helm of the Laker program in 2012, the team posted their first conference win since 2008, later collecting another league win to earn their first playoff berth since Two members of the team were named Second Team All-SUNYAC, becoming the first players recognized by the SUNYAC since In 2013, he led the squad to its first 20-win season since He followed that up in 2014 with another SUNYAC playoff berth and the first conference winning record since The 2015 season marked another improvement in the program as the Lakers finished overall and 7-2 in conference. The team won their first conference tournament match in over two decades and two players earned All-Conference, including the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year award. The Lakers also appeared in the NCAA New York Regional Rankings, coming in as high as seventh out of seventy teams. During his time at Stevens, O Connell elevated the Ducks to the elite level in Division III after qualifying for seven straight NCAA Tournaments. O Connell inherited a program that won just three matches in 2001 before earning its first-ever berth in the Skyline Conference Tournament in 2003, and rattling off six straight conference championships from In the process, Stevens captured the New York Regional Championship and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in both 2006 and For their efforts, the Ducks ended both years ranked in the Top 25 in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. O Connell accumulated a combined record of with a.747 career winning percentage during his time in New Jersey. His players earned many postseason accolades during his tenure. O Connell, who owned a mark as an assistant coach, helped lead Cortland to a pair of fifth-place national finishes in the NCAA Division III Championship before helping Ferris State to a NCAA Division II Championship berth and Brockport to a pair of runner-up finishes in the 2000 and 2001 SUNYAC tournaments. 2

5 2015 SEASON IN REVIEW The Oswego State volleyball team finished its 2015 season with a record of 25-10, its best record in over 20 years. The team found its way into the conference tournament for the second-straight season, making it as far as the semifinals for the first time since The 2510 record included a 7-2 mark against SUNYAC opponents, the best to date under fifth-year head coach J.J. O Connell. Volleyball will be returning six starters in 2016, including reigning SUNYAC and AVCA All-Northeast Region Rookie of the Year Ariel Murawski and AllSUNYAC Second Team player Megan Russell. In total, the team will be returning three of its top-four kills leaders as well as its two setters. Despite graduating four seniors, the squad has plenty of young talent who will be able to use the post-season experience obtained last season to make an even further push in

The school enrolls 7,100 undergraduate students, approximately 430 of which hold the title student-athlete as well. Over the years, those teams and student-athletes have accumulated 44 conference championship titles and have appeared in the NCAA Championship 65 times. In 2007, the Lakers captured their first ever NCAA DIII title as the men s ice hockey team defeated Middlebury College in the National Championship game. Oswego State has also produced 62 All-Americans, hailing from 11 different teams. The men s basketball team winning it s second game of the NCAA Championship and advancing to the Round of 16 (2016).
