1 Registration Packet Celebrating the 25 th Annual Arizona Indian 25 Silver Anniversary Introduction For the past 24 years, the Arizona Indian Council on Aging (AICOA) and the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc., Area Agency on Aging (ITCA-AAA), Region 8, has hosted the Annual AICOA Conference. This year, AICOA and ITCA-AAA will be hosting the 25th Annual AICOA Conference, the Silver Anniversary: Celebrating 25 Years of Arizona Indian Council on Aging. Please join us on April 15-18, 2012, at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. We look forward to seeing you there. About The Conference Conference Purpose: The purpose of the 25th Annual AICOA Conference is to promote healthy practices and socialization as a means to advancing the well-being of American Indian elders, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers. Conference Theme: Celebrating 25 Years of Arizona Indian Council on Aging The theme celebrates and promotes the vibrant history of AICOA and all of whom contributed to building the presence of AICOA. 2 25 Conference Activities and Events Traditional Social Gathering Monday, April 15, :30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Come join the Traditional Social Gathering on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. There will be traditional food and dances for everyone. Traditional attire and dress is highly encouraged. The event is hosted by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Opening Session Tuesday April 16, :30 a.m. 10:00 a.m. This year s opening session will feature the keynote address from Ms. Kathy Greenlee, Administrator of the Administration for Community Living and Assistant Secretary for Aging. Ms. Greenlee is invited to address all of the participants of AICOA. Elder and Sponsorship Recognition Luncheon Tuesday, April 16, :45 a.m. 1:15 p.m. Each year AICOA and ITCA-AAA recognizes outstanding acts of service to Tribal Elders and conference sponsors. Awardees are chosen based on yearly participation and performance. The awards are: 2013 Elder Advocate of the Year Award 2013 Elderly Services Program Award 2013 Elderly Services Program Staff Member of Year Award 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award 2013 AICOA Member of the Year Please notify your Elder Program Director if you would like to nominate a deserving person or program for any of the awards. Senior Prom 25 Years and Still Strolling Tuesday, April 16, :00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Join us for an evening in celebrating 25 Years and Still Strolling! The Senior Prom will include, dancing, socializing, and the crowning of Senior Prom Royalty. Senior Prom Royalty: Each Tribe is encouraged to select one couple to enter the Senior Prom King and Queen contest. The nominees must be 55 years and older. Selection of the Senior Prom King and Queen couple will be through a lottery drawing. Please talk to your Tribal Program Director to nominate your Senior Prom King and Queen candidates. 2

Each year the conference planning committee identifies current elder topics to be addressed during the conference workshop sessions. 4 25 Senior Games Thursday, April 18, :30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. The purpose of the Senior Games is to promote health and fitness and foster the value of leading an active lifestyle, among seniors. The Senior Games offers organized games that allow participants to interact and compete with peers by providing fun and safe individual, adaptive and team games. The Senior Games will take place off site at the Salt River Fields. Please provide your own transporation. Adaptive Games: Some Individual Games have been adapted for individuals with limited range of motion. Team Games are not adaptive. Eligibility: Seniors must be age 55 and over to compete. INDIVIDUAL GAMES Archery Basketball Free-throw Bean Bag Toss Bowling (Wii) Chicken Throw TEAM GAMES Aerobic Dance Competition Horseshoe Throw Paper Crunch Relay s/ Obstacle Course Stackers T-Ball Chair Volleyball Tournament Registration Team Games: Notify your Tribal Elder Program Director to register your team for the Senior Games. NO walk-on teams for Team Games will be allowed. Deadline to register is February 1, Individual Games: Pre-registration is NOT required and will be on-site. The Senior Games Awards Ceremony will recognize and present awards to the winners of the Team Senior Games. All individual game participants will receive ribbons for their participation. 4

The Talking Stick Resort is located off Loop 101 and Indian Bend just minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport. A room block is set up for the nights of April 15, 2013 through April 17, The room rate is $ single/double plus 11.95% tax. The cutoff date to make a room reservation is Friday, March 1, Each individual is responsible for making their own room reservation by calling (866) Please mention group name Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. when making reservations to receive the room block rate. CONFERENCE EXHIBITORS A limited number of exhibitor booths are available on a first come, first serve basis for vendors and organizations to provide information and resource materials to conference participants.
