Exciting times are ahead for the Bulldogs! In just a few short weeks we re ready to welcome approximately 1,350 students to campus as they begin this school year, starting with schedule pick-up/student orientation on August 1 st & 2 nd and our Freshman Transition Day on August 8 th. Our teachers and students continue to demonstrate excellence in everything we do - there is no better place for students to learn and grow than here. The climate, stellar academic achievements, athletic programs, and co-curricular activities at FZS make us an absolutely great high school, and I m excited that you re a part of this wonderful experience. Students, as you begin this school year, one of the most essential parts of a successful high school experience for you is the opportunity to become involved in the complete package available at FZS. The South High School Experience is much more than seven classes each day. We consistently find that our most successful young individuals at FZS are those who take time to become involved in the myriad of activities we offer, in addition to classes they take. Athletics, music, speech, debate, drama, journalism, yearbook, Student Council, and a number of other opportunities are available to you it s to your advantage to take time to become a part of these activities. You ll find that your high school experience is much richer and more successful than ever by having done so. Just as you dedicate yourselves to coursework, refuse to be a passive observer and you ll reap benefits greater than you ve ever imagined from your high school education. 2 SCHEDULE PICK-UP DATES Wednesday & Thursday (August 1st & 2nd) Wednesday August 1st Seniors 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Juniors 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursday August 2 nd Sophomores 7:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Freshmen 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Closed for lunch 11:30-12:30 Monday, August 6th is late schedule pick-up, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (all grade levels) Students unable to attend Schedule Pick-up August 1 st or 2 nd may come in to pick up their schedule, have an ID picture taken, and order a yearbook at Late Schedule Pick-up. If you have changes in home or cell phone numbers, addresses or emergency contact information, please go on line through the parent portal and make any necessary updates prior to registration. Address changes require new proof of residency and must be done in person in the School Counseling Office. Please note Early Schedule Pick-up is not available. All fines and fees must be accounted for prior to picking up a schedule. Any pending residency issues must be resolved before any student is allowed to pick up a schedule. At schedule pick-up All students, including seniors, will be photographed for a student ID card. Underclassmen (9-11) will be photographed for the yearbook. Students may choose to purchase portraits or simply have their picture taken. Schedules will be given to students. The schedule includes locker numbers and combinations. Information, including a calendar of events for the school year, bus schedules, free and reduced lunch applications, and activities (athletics and clubs) will be available. WHAT TO COMPLETE ON LINE AND BRING TO SCHEDULE PICK-UP? (Click this link shs.fz.k12.mo.us - then click on Schedule Pick-up/Register for through the Parent Portal to sign the forms) Parent Portal Updated(if not already on- You must come to office in person with ID to set up a Parent Portal. Student Health Inventory Form Technology Usage Agreement (new enrollees and freshmen only) Student Information Release Form Electronic Communication Permission Form MSHSAA Physical Form (if needed for sports/activities) can be downloaded & printed. Immunization Records (Any student who receives a notice should bring physician s documentation of immunizations. If you did not receive a notice, immunizations are current.) PARKING PERMIT APPLICATIONS: Must be filled out and paid for at registration by cash or check $50.You will need your driver s license, a valid insurance card, vehicle license plate number, make and model and a parent signature is required on the permit application.

6 CLASS OF SENIOR NEWS The Senior Class Officers for the School Year are: Quiny Ung (President), Mark Lamkemeyer, Maya Derhake, Mikel Terrel & Kyle Orf. These officers have been busy planning many fun events. Below are a few items that pertain mainly to seniors. Senior Dues: Dues are $45 this year. Your dues pay for senior week gifts, breakfasts, lunches, senior field trip, a t-shirt, and a gift given to SHS. Seniors must have paid their senior dues by August 31st to be able to attend the senior lunch during senior week. The t-shirt with all the names imprinted on it will be $20. The deadline to order your shirt is Friday, August 31, Graduation announcements, caps and gowns, and specific graduation information such as dates, times, etc., will be distributed to seniors throughout the school year. The week of October 1st is SENIOR WEEK!!! Senior Photo/Yearbook Photo: You may have your senior photograph taken by any photographer; however, you must have your yearbook photo taken at Prestige Portraits by September 14th, 2018, in order for your picture to be in the yearbook. All seniors must also have their photo taken at schedule pick-up for their student ID. Yearbooks: You may order a yearbook at registration. The early bird pricing for yearbooks is $50 through August 14th, The price increases to $60 on August 15th, 2018, the first day of school. Information on yearbook packages, personalization and senior ads will be available during registration and on the school website. Don t miss your chance to get a copy reserved at the lowest price during registration. Grad Night: Parents form a committee and work throughout the school year raising necessary funds for this graduation night event. Past prizes awarded to seniors include laptop computers, flat screen TV s, mini refrigerators, etc. We encourage all parents to get involved and help to create a fun and drug free celebration. Should you have any questions regarding Grad Night, please contact Mr. Joe Serles at Fines: Fines for IDs, text books, library books, athletic equipment, etc. accumulate over your high school years. In order to purchase parking permits, purchase dance tickets, receive tickets for your family and friends to attend the graduation ceremony, and to receive your diploma, be sure your fines are paid in full each semester. Diplomas: Parents, please make sure your child s name is spelled correctly on the parent portal. How your child s name appears on the parent portal is how their name will appear on their diploma.

7 FBLA NEWS The FBLA Club has been very busy this summer. We started the summer by working with West s FBLA Club by holding the 3 rd Summer Computer Camp for Middle School Students. During the camp, FBLA members from West and South taught the fifty middle school students how to create web pages using HTML Coding Members continue to work with Fleet Feet on the 2 nd Zumwalt FBLA Leadership Color Walk/Run to be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at South High School. Check out the FBLA Color Fun Run Registration Form on the next page and the website at We are currently looking for sponsors and the registration information is also available on this site. Additional news will be provided soon. Please contact Mrs. Klemme at aklemme@fz.k12.mo.us with any questions. Akshat Nadella, representing FZS and FBLA District 8, attended the Executive Leadership Training Conference in Jefferson City. He worked with the MO FBLA State Officers and other District Presidents to work together on communicating across all levels of FBLA, becoming a better leader, and learning their roles as District Presidents. Eight members, along with one member from North High School, just returned from the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Baltimore, MD. Akshat Nadella earned 7 th place in the nation in the Business Calculations events, Mrs. Klemme was recognized as the MO State Chapter Adviser of the Year, along with the other State Chapter Advisers of the Year across the US, China, Puerto Rico, and Haiti. Jami Pickle and Kyle Potts were recognized for earning the Achievement Level of the Community Service Award (over 500 hours of community service) and Kyle was also recognized for earning the America Level of the Business Achievement Awards. The Chapter was recognized as a Gold Seal of Merit Chapter, Outstanding Chapter and Chapter Challenge. While in Baltimore, the members toured the Washington DC monuments, including the Korean Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, the Capitol, and the Library of Congress. On another day, members were able to go to the Air and Space Museum. Members also went to Hershey, PA to see the Hershey s World of Chocolate and Hershey Park. On July 16th, four members will attend the MO State CREATING LEADERS & UNLEASHING EXCELLENCE (CLUE) Conference. This conference will emphasis working together as a team to make the FBLA Chapter stronger. The FBLA Club has many exciting activities planned for , we hope that you will take the time to check out our club. These activities include: the Color Fun Run, Show-Me Leadership Conference being held at Worlds of Fun, the District 8 Fall Leadership Conference, community service and other activities. We look forward to seeing everyone at registration with new designs for t-shirts, baseball t-shirts, hoodies, crewneck sweat shirts, hats, headbands, and cell phone card holders. We are grateful for the home-school partnership in teaching children that every minute counts at school and want to make a special note: Early Release Days move to Wednesdays in We know many of you use this time to schedule appointments, etc., so your child can be at school when class is in session. The change takes effect in August. We hope that by reminding you of this change you and your family are ready for the upcoming school year.
