1 Chesapeake Science Point Students Show Off Their Scientific Research Skills at Anne Arundel County Regional Science and Engineering Fair On March 5th, 2016 twenty-one young scientists from Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School presented their science projects at the 2015 Anne Arundel County Regional Science and Engineer Fair. These students were selected from the best CSP projects presented at the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation Science and Engineering Fair held in December Their projects covered a diverse range of topics including computer science, mathematics, engineering, medical, physics and animal sciences. At the awards ceremony held March 10 th at North County High School, awards were announced in multiple categories. Special awards were provided by a multitude of external organization, each judging relative to criteria relative to their organization and scientific interests. Category awards were announced in first through third place plus honorable mentions for high performing students within seventeen different categories, awarded by grade level. And finally, exceptionally high performing students were awarded Broadcom MASTERS award for middle school students and AACPS Grand Award for high school students. As the results were announced, CSP students were amongst the highest awarded students. Three CSP seventh graders were awarded first place in their middle school category and earned Broadcom MASTERS awards for their research efforts. Aaron Chu earned this award for his project Cleaning Oil Spills with Nanotechnology and Magnetism, as did Dhruva Kothari for his project Are you Smarter than a Computer? and Anagha Sandeep for her project Hit Me With Your Best Shot. CSP students did exceptionally well within their category. Ten of the nineteen CSP projects earned first place award within their category. Along with Aaron, Dhruva, and Anagha s project earning this award, this high achievement was also accomplished by: 7 th Grader: Ellie Fahey, Computer Science Category - Get Vaccinated! 7 th Grader: Rafee Mirza, Medicine and Health Category - Blood Clotting 9 th Grader: Mark Kelm, Engineering: Electrical & Mechanical Category - Fighting Fire With Sound 10 th Grader: Matthew Berg, Energy and Transportation Category - Here Comes the Sun Power 11 th Grader: Benjamin Kelm, Computer Science Category - The End of Gerrymandering 11 th Grader: David Kravets, Energy and Transportation Category - Engineering a Novel Material for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells 12 th Grader: Kyle Yamaguchi, Chemistry Category - Effects of Enthalpy of Combustion on the Energy Output and Efficiency of Combustion Reactions
