2 Powered by veteran and youth leadership, the Saint Francis women s bowling team racked up the hadware as a team and individually. The Red Flash finished with three members on the All-NEC Team and won both the NEC Player of the Year and NEC Rookie of the Year. The Flash opened the season winning the KU Baker/Team Matches and rallied to win the second NEC tournament. SFU finished the season with a record and were 16-6 in NEC play. The team embodied the phrase of never, ever give up en route to five straight victories and a 9-1-weekend record at the NEC #2 in Wallingford, Conn. to win the regular season championship for the second time in program history. Both SFU and SHU finished with identical 14-6 records and had a 2-2 head-to-head record. The next tiebreaker was total pin fall on the season, which SFU had the edge over SHU to claim the season championship. Howe-Yorio led the entire conference in traditional average with a for 10 games bowled. She also led the entire conference with a overall frame average. The overall frame average combines traditional frames and baker frames bowled for the regular season. The senior s 89 percent filled frame percentage came during her 20 starts in the regular season. Her conference performance in the NEC #2 was stellar in traditional game play. For the five traditional games bowled at the NEC #2, she average Howe-Yorio was also honored by being named to the All-NEC First Team and was named NTCA Honorable Mention All-American. Howe-Yorio was named NEC Player of the Week three times during the season. Ashley has shown what she is made of - not only in her scoring, but in her mental toughness and her ability to block out any situation and let her talent take over. Countless times she has made key shots for our team, and even more times in supporting her teammates, said head coach Tom Falbo. Udziela had no equal among the rookies in the conference in terms of scoring performance. She was second in traditional average at 202.7, behind teammate Howe-Yorio. She was third in overall frame average in the conference at over 197 frames bowled. She filled 86.5 percent of her frames. The highlight of her season was her performance at the NEC #2 where she averaged in traditional play. Udziela was named to the All-NEC First Team, which is a unique honor for a freshman. During the NEC Touranment, Udziela was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also earned NEC Bowler of the Week honors once and NEC Rookie of the Week twice during the season. Kyra is talented, coachable and during the course of the season, she found the recipe in her game for being able to hit her targets consistently and shape shots. She is a player with still great potential because of how she is able to focus on only the next frame with confidence, said Falbo. Ross was named to the All-NEC Second Team. Ross had a traditional average of for 10 games bowled and a overall frame average during the regular season. This type of consistent play brought her the conference honors in her senior season. She was also named NEC Bowler of the Week during the season. Sarah is energy. She leads by her passion, her awareness of the situation and her scoring. She thrives in the heated battles of conference play and brings out the best in her teammates during these times, said Falbo.
