2 Page 2 125th Ohio Department Encampment Medal The Special 125 th Ohio Encampment Medal will be available at the Annual Encampment. Ohio SUV Brothers who attend the Encampment will receive one medal free of charge. If extra medals are wanted or a Brother who does NOT attend the Encampment, there will be a charge of $10.00 per medal. The Department has authorized Ohio Camps to purchase a minimum of 20 medals at the reduced cost of $8 each. We will NOT have a separate Encampment Ribbon. Medals can be purchased from Brother Darby - Dept. Secretary / Treasurer at or after the Encampment.

3 2007 GAR Allied Orders Encampment 125th Department of Ohio - SUVCW Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Page 3 Franklin County Veterans Memorial Building in Columbus, Ohio The following information is the result of the Commander appointed Planning Committee consisting of Bob Davis, Don Grant and Jim Houston. With the high cost of having the Encampment at Mount Union College for three days, the decision was made for a one day Encampment and change location. We wish all Allied Orders a great Encampment. We must require a registration for free parking and in house catered luncheon. We need 50 plus members for catered luncheon. This pre-registration for parking and luncheon must be received by Robert W. Davis at the above address no later then Tuesday, May 15, There will be a $5.00 surcharge for the luncheon after the May 15 th deadline. No reservations for the luncheon will be accepted three days prior to the Encampment. No free parking after May 15 th reservation deadline. VETERANS MEMORIAL BUILDING OPEN : 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Signs for doors to be entered will be provided from parking lot, directing you to second floor meeting rooms. REGISTRATIONS: Two large tables will be provided as you come off elevator on the second floor. CRAFT & SALES TABLES: Four (4) large tables provided in hall between rooms 204 & 205. ALLIED ORDERS RECEPTION: ROOM 205 ( Coffee, doughnuts and muffins for everyone.) Have your Flag Bases handy in your car. ( There are some flag bases are in rooms.) The Departments of Ohio of the Ladies of the GAR, Daughters of the Union Veterans and the Auxiliary - SUVCW are going to join us. At this time, the Women's Relief Corps has decided not to join us in Columbus. See the following pages for maps, schedule, forms. See you all there!!

6 Page 6 Department Encampment Maps Veterans Memorial has the best seat in the house! Located along the banks of the beautiful Scioto River, we're within just a short walking distance from downtown. Being that close is one less concern when time is a factor and if you have to drive, we're easily accessible from all interstate arteries, just blocks away from I-70 and I-71. But don't worry, just because we're downtown doesn't mean you have to deal with downtown parking. Veterans Memorial makes parking worry-free with our well-lit, 950 parking spaces. Parking 950 Cars The 950 adjacent, on-site spaces provide ample off-street parking in a well lighted lot. Entrance to the exhibition halls and auditorium are just a few short steps away. Directions to Veterans Memorial from 1-70 and 1-71 HEADING SOUTH: Take 1-71 south to the Broad St. exit and turn right. Continue approximately 1.4 miles and cross the Scioto River. Veterans Memorial will be on your right. HEADING NORTH: Take 1-71 north to the Broad St. exit and turn left. Continue approximately 1.4 miles and cross the Scioto River. 7 Volume 4, Issue 1 Page 7 The 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry "Bloody Buckeye Boys in Blue" A Memorial to the Soldiers of the 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry: Who gave their lives at the Battle of Lynchburg June 17-18, 1864 (Pictures from Becca & Sue Freshley) As the Ohio Department Commander, I was honored to participate as the Ohio representative of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in the Memorial Dedication to the nine Union Soldiers that were buried in this cemetery unmarked and we paid the overdue respect to them all. They gave the ultimate sacrifice and did not make it home to Ohio. So I brought Ohio to them! It was an great but yet solemn ceremony that had about 100 spectators from this town of Lynchburg, Virginia on April 22, In F, C, & L, Ken L. Freshley, DC

I am certain it will help many camps in determining how much per capita needs to be sent in to the Department. BREAKDOWN OF PER CAPITA -NEW BROTHERS New Brother (Jan Mar) $5.00 application fee + $22.00 per capita - $27.00 New Brother (Apr Jun) $5.00 application fee + $16.50 per capita = $21.50 New Brother (Jul Sep) $5.00 application fee + $11.00 per capita = $16.00 New Brother (Oct Dec) $5.00 application fee + $3.50 per capita = $8.50 Juniors: $5.00 application fee only, no per capita Reinstated Brother: $22.00 regardless of time of year. We are also offering a optional cash prize of $ for each revolver, and $ for the Sharps. Remember, that other organizations can sell these tickets. The selling organization returns 50% with each ticket stub back to the JAG Camp, and keeps the remainder. A good money maker for any organization!! We had quite a few organizations that participated and found out that they could make some extra money! Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 tickets for $5.00, The Drawing will be held December 8, 2007 at our Annual Camp Meeting. 9 Fellow Brothers, Commander s Comments Page 9 I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for a great and prosperous year! Did I forget BUSY? I visited as many camps as I possibly could, performed many Camp Officer installations, and the ones that I could not attend, one of the other Dept. Officers volunteered to fill in for me. I estimate that I will have traveled approximately 7500 miles during my time in the Office of Department Commander. I have learned more than I could have ever imagined this year, I could only imagine what is like as a National Officer. Many Kudos to the Dept. Encampment Planning Committee, the 125th Encampment Medal Committee and the Dept. Council for bearing through all the nagging s from me, with out them the job of changing the encampment location and all the other items would have been a impossible task! All Camps ensure that you send in your required reports in a timely fashion, to the Dept. Secretary also to include updated rosters and officer lists including their contact information, nothing is more frustrating than having outdated information. All Camps please review your Camp information on the OHIOSUV website and your own Camp website and ensure that the information is up to date.
