Emily Okerlund WFN Pathways Coordinator Whoever says You can t change the world rarely does! Last Fall I attended the Governor's Education Summit. I was inspired by his message that educators are in not only in the education business, but more importantly, are in the people business. There is not a profession that can have more of an impact on the future than education. Our product (people) shape everything else. In the book called Shift your thinking by Dean Del Sesto, he shares the thought that everyday, we deliver a presence into the world. We rarely think about it on a macroscale of changing the world, but what if one day everyone on the planet were to wake up and max out their capacity to love, care, serve and encourage everyone they came in contact with? The world could be changed. Whose world can YOU be a part of improving today? 2 Page 2 Issue 14 Spring Utah CTE has signed the commitment form to remain a part of the CTE: Learning that works for America campaign. By signing the commitment form, Utah CTE has agreed to authorize LEAs to use the CTE: Learning that works for Utah brand and logos and agreed to the terms and conditions outlined by Advance CTE. We value your interest in supporting Career and Technical Education and helping to strengthen the brand of CTE: Learning that works for Utah. Our goal is to bring clarity, consistency, and connectivity to how CTE works for our nation and the state of Utah. Beginning with the school year, the Utah CTE Career Pathways were aligned with the national Career Clusters and categorized by 15 of the 16 Career Clusters, instead of by the seven CTE Areas of Study. As a result of the alignment to Career Clusters, Utah CTE has signed the agreement to use the national CTE Career Clusters logos. The Career Clusters brand promises to continually improve the relevance and value of student education through CTE by utilizing the 16 Career Clusters (15 in Utah) and related Career Pathways each aligned to industry needs. We value your interest in supporting Career and Technical Education and helping to strengthen Utah CTE Career Pathways by using the Career Clusters brand. Your CTE director can give you access to electronic logos. Career Trees Available for your Classroom: Deliver a Dynamic Competitive Advantage with the Career Tree Wasatch Front North CTE Region participates with the Tools For Schools Career Tree Program. The TFS Career Tree sparks the dialogue, passion, and motivation for students to discover what s possible in their careers and how to get there. Career Tree answers the why? of today s younger generations and their parents: Why does academic performance matter? Why do I need a competitive advantage in today s world? Why should I start planning now for the future I want to enjoy? Why is careerfocused education a smart choice? Talk to your CTE Director or Coordinator if you d like to get a career tree graphic for your classroom.
