Your participation is invaluable and your commitment to conducting fair and accurate elections for the voters in Duval County is appreciated beyond measure. You are extremely important to the electoral process. August 26 Primary Election November 4 General Election PLEASE NOTE: On-line training will NOT be available for the 2014 Primary Election. Our mission is to convey the voice of the people by providing fair, accurate and accessible elections with transparency and integrity. Jerry Holland With the upcoming elections rapidly approaching, I want to share a few changes with you. First, we have updated our voter check-in system with new equipment to replace the paper register. The new equipment known as the Electronic Voter Identification commonly called the EViD will allow us to change and update voter registration records; which will increase our efficiency from the precincts on Election Day. As always, I encourage you to complete training so we may have the opportunity to assign you to work on Election Day. As with any election, the key to success is a well-trained staff of courteous, confident, dedicated poll workers. Therefore, I am counting on you to ask questions, become familiar with our new equipment and procedures, and work closely with our staff to ensure that Duval County has another year of successful elections. 2 Important Training Information What s New? The days of checking-in voters with a paper register are over! We have purchased a device called the Electronic Voter Identification unit commonly known as EViD to use on Election Day to increase efficiency in processing a voter. With the EViDs, you will be able to check-in a voter in less time, change a voter s address or name, and even identify if a voter has voted. We have reached the era in elections when being connected is the most effective method in providing accurate election results quickly. For the upcoming elections, voters will notice a slight change starting with the elimination of the alphabet lines; however, we have added a ballot station. Voters will still receive a paper ballot from the ballot station and then insert it into the DS200. We hope everyone is ready to impress the voters of Duval County! Early Voting Please join us to work early voting! If you have worked at least two (2) elections, have the ability to work three to four days consecutively, and have an address, then you are eligible to apply. Interested? NO calls will be accepted due to the volume of participants. page 2 Supervised Absentee Voting Program It s that time again to prepare for Supervised Absentee voting in Duval County. We have conducted this program since 2002 to all voters residing at an assisted living or residential facility (F.S ). The program offers residents of these facilities another option of access and convenience in voting for some residents who are not physically able to travel to an early voting site or a polling location. We are recruiting poll workers to join us in conducting this program. In order to participate in this program, you must have worked at least one election and provide your own transportation. 3 Important Training Information Training Update 2014 Primary Election All experienced Precinct Managers and Assistant Managers must attend a four-hour classroom training session. All experienced Inspector Techs (formerly known as DS Attendants, Register Inspectors, and Pretechs) must attend a three-hour classroom training session. All Deputies must attend a two-hour classroom training session. Training for the Primary Election will begin, May 28, 2014 and end Friday, July 11, Note: If you have not successfully completed training by this date, you will not be assigned to work in the Primary Election. Register for Training at Everyone must register for a class via the online registration at to enable the Supervisor of Elections staff to prepare for each class. You may begin registering for training on Friday, May 9, Online registration may be accessed from any location, and anyone with computer access may register himself as well as others for training. Follow Directions to Register: To register for a class, go to scroll down click on POLL WORKER INFORMATION on the left hand-side, and then click on REGISTER for a class. Remember, your VOTER REGISTRATION NUMBER is both the USERNAME and PASSWORD. Click on BEGIN and then select CLASSROOM TRAINING for your position. PRECINCT MANAGERS and ASSISTANT MANAGERS click on MANAGERS/ ASSISTANT MANAGERS CLASSROOM course. INSPECTOR TECHs should click on INSPECTOR TECHs CLASSROOM course. DEPUTIES should click on DEPUTY CLASSROOM course. Note: If you were assigned as a DS Attendant, Inspector, or Pretech your title has been changed to INSPECTOR TECHNICIAN, and we will train you to work as an INSPECTOR TECHNICIAN. Therefore, you will need to sign-up to take the INSPECTOR TECH classroom course. Training... Where?
